Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Since I noticed some people were talking about the frustration on the left for how biden isn't progressive enough, it's worth remembering that no one said fighting for progressive change would be easy. There's a reason we call it "fighting".

At this point the illusion of fighting the results to bring in donations and galvanize supporters is the goal, rather than any serious threat to said results.
As for the checks, it was a clear attempt to win approval. Trump leaves with a final gift to Americans and gets to go “Aren’t I great? I’m the best, simply the best, so I’m going to run again in 2024.” The GOP, realizing he’s not going to run the country after January, pivoted to appeasing their corporate masters over satiating Trump’s ego.
Denial is possible, but considering he’s sent feelers to NBC asking about interest in a revival of The Apprentice, there’s a chance at least part of him knows he’s gone. But he’ll never admit it, given his long standing policy of refusing to acknowledge any mistakes and suing anyone who implies otherwise.

Well that's good. However if T*** finds out, he's gonna be mad.
Also, another thing about the alt-right furries: many of them seem to be particularly fixated on framing the Antifa/BLM as Democrat-backed domestic terrorists.
Of all the issues they can bring up that would typically fall in line with GOP rhetoric, their greatest concern is focused on the typical poxy online drama between furries who disagree with them and their seething hatred for the BLM and Antifa.

He still led the forces trying to secede. If he was truly an abolitionist, even one that didn’t want to raise arms against his countrymen, he would have sat the war out. Because he sure as hell didn’t have a problem leading his forces to kill Northerners.

No, I agree with him completely. I disagree with the “Lee myth”, the same myth that attempts to paint Southern generals as heroes and divorce them from slavery.
The same reason they litter the South. To remind people the ideals they fought for are still very much alive. And key among those ideals are racial superiority.

Given that Lee raised arms against the loyalists of West Virginia, the argument he loved Virginia more is bullshit. He loved the slaving part of it.
He also personally whipped a female slave.
And was pro-slavery because, of course he was.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Lee didn't just own slaves, other slave owners commented on his cruelty. He was so bad he stood out.
Furthermore, the Army of Northern Virginia enslaved free blacks (in an attempt to boost the flagging Confederate economy) during their incursions into Union territory. They threatened to burn any town that didn't turn blacks over.
Lee wasn't just bad, he was awful by the low standards of his day.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Exactly, Trump doesn't have any problems using someone else's money (namely, taxpayer money) to boost his image.
Giving everyone cheques with his name on it fits that perfectly. And he's tried to do it before, too.
