Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, I can understand people don't like being treated as a potential threat by someone's security detail.
Not to mention that they can make a neighbourhood feel less safe, paradoxically, because the security implies there are threats, and because controversial people like Trump attract protesters and other folks you may not want to hang around your kids.

Oh yeah, of course that's why they don't get traction in MA. Please excuse me while I laugh.

. Luckily, it’s in Massachusetts, so there isn’t much chance of that.

According to Wapo, someone was able to hack Trump’s Twitter account by guessing the password.
The password in question?
“maga2020!“
apparently, it was just independently verified.

Leaving the country of his own volition whilst there's still a pandemic going on would be quite difficult. Plus you can hardly let a former president go unescorted to a foreign country, so I highly doubt Trump is perfectly free to go gallivanting off to Russia to escape legal troubles. Definitely not any time around the inauguration.
And yeah, he'd have to sneak to avoid legal trouble? If he's actually required in the country, it seems kind of unlikely that the secret service is going to help him stay away.

Narcissistic, yes. Stubborn, not necesarily.
Look how quickly he dropped the LOCK HER UP once he had what he wanted. He wants money, that is all.

Except in this case, he's digging himself so deep that not even by standing on top all of his sycophants and henchmen pyramid, he'll get out from that hole.
Just standing there and... watch... the sky as the rain all comes down and smear away the face-paint from his pale, corpulent, visage, as the Trump Empire drowns in his own debts once exposed to the surface.
If this actually happened, it would be pure poetry.
Because his debts are very real.
And the collectors, are about to get him once he's out in January...

I know that the Georgia Senators are being screwed because the fine print to their donations means that 75% goes to the Trump funds, and 25% goes into the RNC (of which only some goes back to them).
And Trump probably won't be able to stay in another country to avoid prosecution or investigation. How many countries are willing to have embassies withdrawn and sanctions levied for Trump's sake? North Korea, maybe?
He does not need to go to another country. I very much doubt any of his debts or acusations will hurt him in the slightest. I do not think he will see a smidge of consequence for anything he has done in the last 4 years.
Him in prison is a chimera.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesIf New York demands his extradition and a foreign country shelters him (and by extension, effectively takes custody of him and all the classified data he has), DC will be forced to react. Sheltering him is to risky, and he just isn't that useful anymore.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
