Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Bolsonaro has been in an epic meltdown ever since biden won the election. He even implied that he would initiate a military conflict with the US if Biden insisted on the sanctions he mentioned, which is the height of absurdity and thankfully has no chance of happening.

I think in Mexico's case, he's probably holding off until Trump's ass is actually OUT of the White House.
After all, Mexico-US Relations right now are... well... yeah.
That said, he might do it sometime later this week.
As for said relations, it's mostly due to the fact American DEA've basically been operating in Mexico without Mexican governmental oversight and diplomatic immunity. Which understandably pisses the government off. And while the DEA chief's logic is sound about the Mexican government having a lot of corruption.... This is also an agency that Trump's taken a personal hand in reshaping over the past four years, which means they've likely GREATLY overstepped their boundaries given they're acting on foreign soil.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido. The hardline right-wingers seem to be extremely obsessed with framing Joe Biden of being a Chinese puppet, including in this batshit insane claim that he will shut down power grids and allow China to invade the US within months of his inauguration
.
Is there any precedent behind Biden having links to China or anything? Or is this just GOP media sensationalism to further rile their already fucked up base? I just can't understand how they come to the conclusion that he's a CCP plant of all things, other than that they define anything left of Trump of being a deep state socialist agent.

Scaled seekerWell, the left accused Trump of being a Russian puppet, so of course the right will accuse Biden of being a Chinese puppet. The idea is absurd; it's based on a kind of black-and-white thinking wherein Trump was "tough on China", so anything not that is "sucking up to China" or whatever. Of course, Trump's actions were counterproductive and absurd, but they don't care about that.
There is a vocal cadre of people (mainly on the left) who think that because of China's government and history of human rights abuses, we must not have any trade or diplomacy with it. This is patently unrealistic. On the right, of course, there's the farcical myth of China somehow manipulating the trade deficit to get rich at our expense.
In the real world, China is a major power and we will trade with it whether it makes people upset or not.

It's a bit more complicated than that. The USA left has never really been able to make up its mind about the CCP. That's not even getting into the hardcore Maoist tankies.
The Democratic Party, as Fluffy has pointed out quite a few times, has a very mixed record when it comes to the CCP.
None of which of course proves that Biden's a CCP puppet.

Speaking of coups, the right is also threatening that "We the People" will retake the rightful government and uphold the constitution after believing that the law have been compromised following Trump's failed suits.
Fun times ahead for the US. Hope none of them actually have the balls to start any shit.

Scaled seeker'We the People' just did take back the government from one elected not by the popular vote but by the technicality of the electoral college. By voting. En masse, despite all the shenanigans attempted.
They need to take a nice long look at the constitution, too, because it's clear they haven't a clue what's actually in it. The suits have been rejected by red and blue aligned judges alike, because they have no basis or merit.

This section of his wiki has a lot of details about said "controversy" similar to the Ukraine "investigation" Trump wants handled. And I'm seeing claims that he was secretly honeytrapped by someone who’s using Liu Yefei... Yeah...
Putin announced that he says congrats to Biden. According to him, he “expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which have a special responsibility for global security and stability, could, despite their differences, really help to solve the many problems and challenges facing the world.”
That was announced via BBC.

Personally don’t know if that was also fueled by Obama not (at least) helping Aquino when the PLAN said hello in the Spratlys. I’m seeing this though in Filipino Defense communities online that see this event as a failure in the Democrat’s Asia policies.

Not really that surprising for Brazil's president, given how much of a Trump Imitator and Kiss-Ass he is.
