There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah internal Dem conflicts don’t tend to escalate beyond Twitter, now Twitter is a nasty place full of terrible people and some of them probably do need legal intervention, but the Republican internal conflicts have already reached the level of more direct death threats.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe Republicans tend to be more openly unified - one the party’s direction becomes clear, everyone on the right falls in line. That means that ever since Trump’s election, they’ve fallen in line with the far-right. The immediate situation - elements of the far-right rejecting them for being unable to change reality or steal the election, despite their attempts - is strange for them. And violence is typical of the far-right rather than of the left.
Democrats have more open ideological disagreements between centrists, liberals, and leftists, but they occur within the bounds of the law. They’re often less able to present a unified political front. While the Republicans will more rightward in lockstep when the party tells them to, centrist Democrats are much less willing to support progressive policies.

Joe Biden "will be removed one way or another," Alex Jones tells pro-Trump march – Some people responded to Jones' speech by saying he was inciting violence against the president-elect—and that the Secret Service and FBI should know about it.

In a clip shared on Twitter, the Infowars owner spoke to protesters at the second Million MAGA March, where supporters of President Donald Trump fought against the results of the election, which show that he lost to Biden.
Jones, who has shared a number of disproven conspiracy theories in his online show and podcast, seemingly referenced the far-right QAnon conspiracy, which alleges that Trump is secretly fighting against a cult of Democratic Satanic pedophiles. QAnon has been widely dismissed and disproven. Jones also seemingly suggested that Biden is actually an undead entity.
"We will never back down to the Satanic pedophile, globalist New World Order and their walking-dead reanimated corpse Joe Biden, and we will never recognize him," he said.
Jones continued, alleging that Trump had no connections to Russia, but implied that Biden did. "President Trump had zero connection to Russians. No proof. Four years of investigation. With the Bidens, it's open and shut," he shouted. This is seemingly a reference to conspiracy theories and allegations that Biden's son Hunter was involved in international corruption. Hunter Biden is currently being investigated for his business dealings by the Justice Department, as the Biden transition team revealed on Wednesday.
Jones also accused Biden of being a "globalist" before saying he'll be removed. While not explicitly violent, Jones' speech is certainly suggestive of violent action being taken against the president-elect. As previously reported, there have been numerous videos that have surfaced of violent altercations between people identified as Proud Boys and counter-protesters.
Lincoln Project Florida Steering Committee member David Weissman noted that Jones' remarks could be considered anti-Semitic and suggested that he should be arrested for inciting violence. Some people responded to Weissman by suggesting that people tip off the FBI about Jones and his comments.
Others shared similar thoughts on Twitter, some tagging the FBI's and Secret Service's accounts, asking for Jones to be investigated for inciting violence and to be charged with treason.
Other videos have surfaced of Jones sharing conspiracies about "world government" and the election being "stolen" from Trump. "World government is here, and the system is publicly stealing this election from the biggest landslide and the biggest political realignment since 1776," he said.
Videos earlier in the day showed Jones participating in the march, with groups of supporters surrounding him. Some protesters around Jones chanted "1776."
Newsweek reached out to Infowars for comment.
The thing about Alex Jones that's really stuck with me: According to The Last Podcast on the Left, even Bill Cooper
, considered the father of modern day conspiracy theory, thought Jones was full of shit.
And the mask comes off. Kinda.
At the very least it's outing yourself as an isolationist/nationalist, like "We don't need to work with other countries on anything because we're the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE GROVELING AT OUR FEET!!!" Which is not only an obnoxious attitude but unrealistic in today's more-connected-than-ever world. We should be working together, not battling for dominance like some zero-sum game.
And yeah, FBI, sic 'em. That was a pretty blatant call for an assassination.

Ah, right. I was wondering, since in the traditional meaning, pretty much all politicians are globalists to some extent.
Gonna be honest, never in my life have I heard the word "globalist" and have it not turn out to be an antisemitic dogwhistle.
Globalisation =/= "globalist".

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyFunny thing is, Biden isn't even lapsed. He attends Church almost every Sunday, and did so as VP to. He's one of the most openly religious active Democrats, and stands out among them because he isn't African American.
If he continues to do as President, he would stand out as even religious Presidents (Obama, Bush 43) tend to worship privately lately. Probably a security and schedule thing.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Globalism is a legitimate political term, as per Wikipedia
. The problem is more that it has been co-opted by racist groups.
And I think we should not let dog whistles and racists deter us from using terms in their legitimate meanings. If they appropriate them, then we should appropriate them right back.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesThat's not, and never has been, how it works. If you start saying "Joe Biden is a globalist", all you're going to do is make people think you're a neo-Nazi.
Say he's for stronger foreign relations or is in favor of supporting America's allies abroad, or whatever. But saying he's a globalist means something different now, and at best, all you'll be doing is acting as a smokescreen for the people who turned it into a dogwhistle.
It's been fun.I think we can all agree that we shouldn't be using racist and/or antisemitic dogwhistles.
Also, let's not go all anti-religion here just because a lot of Evangelicals are causing problems. Especially since Joe Biden is not an Evangelical.
I say this as an atheist.

Disgusted, but not surprisedGlobalism is a real thing, but like "liberal" it's been co-opted into a term of hate by the right-wing. Which is weird because classical liberals often align right.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Don't get me wrong: I'm looking forward to the first openly atheist President, but they need not to be an asshole about it, like Richard Dawkins.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Seriously though, there are a lot of nice people who happen to be religious, it's just that figures like Mike Pence and Phil Robertson give them a bad name.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - Dawn

Don't... both sides do that? The whole ideological purity thing? Or am I mistaken and it really IS the right that mostly does it?
Yeah. It's also been mentioned that no deaths have ever been conclusively linked to Antifa, while the Right has Kyle Rittenhouse just to start.
