Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It's about 40%, actually. (There were 250K votes cast by service members
and about 600k cast by voters abroad
in 2016.) Given that, and that the 4:1 number is from 2-3 states, I don't know that you can say the military vote was overwhelmingly pro-Biden.
That tweet just serves as another proof that Trump's cult is just as crazy as Comstock's.
Only Comstock is way more open-minded to science than Trump ever would be.
Well, I can at least safely say the US Military isn't exactly going to side with a guy who's disparaged them every chance he gets. regardless of their political views, being shat on for doing what they do in service to their country isn't really going to endear them to follow you. Add to that anythink Trump'd likely try to tell them to do in the next month or so could easily be construed as an unlawful order, and thus one they don't have to follow.
The guy did already try to break Posse Comitatus after all, which is a direct violation of the Constitution to do. The same Constitution American Military Personnel swear an oath to uphold.
it's also far more than 40%. Two things to remember. the US military as a whole is dedicated to being non-partisan, and one of the biggest mistakes non-Military folks make is assuming servicepeople are a bunch of conservatives. Older Veterans, sure.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido. It's important to remind people worried about a coup that Trump lost the election. Everyone with brains knows he lost. The bigwig Republicans are not going to try and launch a coup or his behalf because they know that if they just be patient and wait and stick to their playbook they'll have a good shot and preventing Biden from doing much and pick the White House back up in 2024.
On an odd side note, apparently some crazed ex-Marine tried to form an army and take over Haiti some time in the past year.

I don't think the GOP actually has a chance of picking up the White House in 2024...
But seriously, if some person or friend tries to explain to you why the GOP is good for the military, remind them the countless times Pigface insulted our troops and the GOP stayed silent (in fact I think some members would have joined him in insulting our troops).

It wasn't as close as it appeared. Just as the Blue Wave never materialized, so was the Red Mirage always a mirage. It wasn't so much half the country voting for Trump as it turned out to be 1/3rd of the country. Not only did he lose the popular vote (which we've all made the "that and a dollar will buy you a coke") but he lost by many electoral college votes.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.“And it was challenged in court as a violation of Constitutional rights. The Supreme Court of the United States did not stop it," he continued. "Lessons of history. They were 120 thousand. We are 75 million.”
Higgins then said that those that voted for Trump “will not take a knee to oppression,” adding that the election was “corrupted by coordinated massive fraud and by unconstitutional election process manipulation in major cities of key states.”
“If your rationale for kneeling is based upon a contemporary general acceptance of unconstitutional oppression and lack of Court intervention, then I ask you ... if you were a Japanese American in WWII ... would you just concede? Would you kneel?” Higgins wrote.
“If your answer is yes, then perhaps you should kneel. You’ll be out of our way," he added.
Higgins attached a photo of newspapers reading “ouster of all Japs in California near.”

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."
How dare Clayface compare innocent Japanese-Americans who suffered because of their ethnicity to Trump supporters who do not know such suffering. This is especially insulting and ignorant.

The second one had me facepalming. Hard.
These people are so far gone into their delusion that they (who are ironically, anything but devout Christians), believe they can tear down a building by blowing horns...
... They are going to be so disappointed once "their God" does nothing to answer their prayers.
I wonder how long it will take before they wake up and realize that they are behaving (in accordance to their own bible, no less) like "heathens" and currently "dancing around a man-made golden calf".
Hopefully, none of them are so delusional that they decide to "do God's work" and manually tear the building down through explosives in order to "fake a miracle", just to satisfy their own delusions, expecting Trump to pardon them if they get caught...
Hopefully.

I believe so. He's like one of those Proud Boys except that he somehow got elected.
A Shofar is a horn, their goal is to emulate Jericho I believe, or at least that was what was being implied.

Leviticus 19:34
x4 A Shofar is a horn made from an Animal Horn. In the Old Testament/Hebrew Scripture, the Jewish People, having left Egypt but been exiled from Israel for a Hundred or so years, return to Israel and find the Canaanites have built a city (Jericho) blocking their entrance. Their leader, Joshua, is told by an Angel to walk around the city for a Month and then on the Final Day, to blow horns around the city, and as a result, the city collapsed and the Hebrews returned to Israel.
So yeah, these people were hoping that the Supreme Court Building would collapse, killing everyone inside. They're absolutely vile and nuts.

I'm aware., as it's also Embassy staff, after all. But the vast majority of overseas voters ARE Military personnel. Tends to happen when you have a couple dozen full military bases on foreign soil.
