Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, it's too damaging not to have the job done by someone. And it's not going to be the government doing it in the foreseeable future.
My musician pagePennsylvania governor Tom Wolfe tests positive for COVID-19.
Wolf, not Wolfe.
Michigan legislator who gave 'warning' to Trump supporters stripped of committee seats
. How are these comments any worse than the rhetoric Trump supporters often espouse? Because they were uttered by a black Democratic woman?

X5 It’s their platform, outside of non-discrimination laws I don’t think the government should be requiring private companies to provide accommodation to people.
Tech companies should be taking more responsibility for the news they disseminate, not less.

Eh, this particular bit - And for those of you who are soldiers, you know how to do it. Do it right. Be in order. Make them pay - raises a red flag or two to me.
And this is the shitty part about being a Doomed Moral Victor - you hold on to your values, but the other side has no such compunction.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
Then you're in the wrong thread. Nothing is good news anymore... except for SNL!!

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnHow about more bad news?
Sheesh we really need to replanting stuff after those fires.
Unfortunately, I have a couple of bits of bad news too.
Seventeen states have filed a joint amicus brief in support of the Texas lawsuit.
(The link is a PDF of the official SCOTUS brief document.)
The latter is a real problem. If Democrats block/delay the government funding due to this rider, you know what the Republican response will be, but if they let it go through...

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)
Isn't online unauthorized streaming already punishable by jail time?
As per my understanding, under current U.S. law copyright violations like that are a civil misdemeanor, and thus would not be subject to criminal penalties such as jail time. The rider is set to change that.
As the article points out, Tillis's reelection efforts were heavily financially backed by PACs working for big music and film companies, so...yeah.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Hunter Biden is under tax investigation by the US Attorney's Office in Delaware
.
IIRC this is 5 days before the electoral college votes are counted or some such? (If I'm wrong, correct me, 2020 has been a crazy year.)
Also, I hate that we're in such a state where the first thing that comes to mind is "Trump ordered the investigation to derail Biden's transition because of his extreme pettiness and petulance over losing", but I guess this is the country now.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
For those fearing faithless electors choosing T*** over Biden, a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year essentially forbade electors from being faithless, so Biden gets to be President regardless of all the work Orange Grandpa and his team are doing to damage his family's reputation.
Pretty soon it will be Orange Grandpa's family that is under tax investigation...
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnSo can someone explain the Texas lawsuit to me? Is it seriously that Texas wants to sue another state for not interpreting a law the same way they do? I thought republicans wanted the states to be MORE autonomous?
States' rights have always been a cover, from the very beginning reactionaries have used it as a weapon to attack the central government for daring to interfere in their depredations.

I think it's the one mentioned here.

So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrWanting Trump's favor, and therefore a presidential pardon, seems the most likely candidate.

Although I know the videos Youtube will remove are not truthful, at the same time I'm not entirely comfortable with Google unilaterally policing what it wants. Big corporations getting/giving themselves more power is generally not a good thing.
