The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Isn't the last Debate this night? (or was it Thursday)? If whatever Trump has to say would be of real importance, wouldn't he say it now to try to kneecap Obama in it?

As for Trump, who cares what he has to say.

The "America Needs Romney" advertisement blimp crashed in Florida.

It landed in a heavily democratic part of Florida, which has me laughing. And no one was hurt, thankfully.

I'm just going to say that I hope that no one was hurt, but if anyone was, I hope they get well soon, and my condolences if anyone was killed in the accident.

In other words, the same thing I'd say regarding any blimp crash.

No injuries or fatalities. They made an emergency landing, it just looked like it crashed.

He didn't give Romney a sign, silly. The sign crashed and he took it away.

I've found this on YouTube: it was shown last week. It's relevant: Panarama, Kill at Will: America on Trial.

You've got a crazy legislation system, folks. -.- And, the relative silence on the gun issue by both candidates isn't going to do much to highlight it. tongue

Reminder!

  • The final presidential debate between the president and the former governor of Massachusetts will air today, about an hour from this post. It will be about foreign policy.

  • The third-party debate, moderated by Larry King, will be tomorrow, same time as the above one. It will feature former Virginia-sent representative Virgil Goode (Constitution), former governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson (Libertarian), former mayor (Salt Lake City, Utah) Rocky Anderson (Justice), and Dr. Jill Stein from Massachusetts (Green). I don't know if anyone will air it live, but hopefully it will be available soon.

  • As mentioned before, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein already had an online debate. The UPDATED VERSION tongue here.

Yeah. Romney has to separate himself from Obama without attaching himself too closely to GW's foreign policy.

Or he could just start acting like a neocon on Iran and score points that way... the rhetoric on that subject scares the shit out of me.

Obama needs to suavely point out Romney's similarity to Bush and how his policies will fuck us like how Bush's did. How world leaders will not be able to communicate with Romney and he''ll be using a more steroid version of Bush's fear mongering and catering to corporate dickheads.

I'm currently following al-Jazeera's coverage of the debate. They're going to broadcast the debate live, and for the last half hour or so I've been listening to the analysts.

Seems that the moderator is introducing himself and the candidates now.
