Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

And plenty of people have pointed out that the risk of him achieving anything at large scale is ridiculously beyond contempt. He does not have the support of the army. He does not have the support form the judicial branch. He only has the nominal support of the majority of republicans - even McConnel has not responded to the whole MUH FAKE ELECTION shenanigans.
The real risk is him spuring lone wolves. Not him starting a revolt.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesAnd how is that different to anything he's ever done in his entire run as president? Trump is a loud ineffectual imbecile racking up money for himself through his scam funding efforts - his latest one being this "Fake election" garbage

x3 His anti-base (meaning those that are not part of his base) are outraged that he's not being respectful to Biden. Of course there are limits to how much or how long Biden can remain respectful to Mr. Orange himself when all he does is attack Biden and the Dems for "rigging" the election.
Sure, he can also proclaim a national monument, both have an equal legal impact on the transition of power to Biden.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranKey passages:
"This is a serious health emergency, and we must take it seriously," she said, casting one of three votes that would again prohibit the practice across the county of more than 10 million people.
Hours later, according to KTTV, she was spotted dining alfresco at an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif.
Kuehl is one of at least four high-profile California Democrats who have landed in hot water in recent days for failing to abide by their own public health recommendations.
Despite pleading with residents to stay home to slow the spread of coronavirus - which has killed at least 269,000 people in the United States - those very same lawmakers have ignored state and local rules, attending large holiday gatherings or indoor birthday celebrations. In one case, two politicians' dinners took place on consecutive nights at the same pricey restaurant in Napa Valley.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) both traveled to Napa Valley for birthday dinners last month at the French Laundry, a venerable eatery where reservations are famously hard-won, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The parties took place on Nov. 6 and 7, respectively, when Napa County allowed indoor dining without a cap on the number of households that could gather at one table. But statewide guidelines discouraged such dinners and limited them to three households, a boundary that Newsom's group of a dozen people appeared to breach.
In San Jose, meanwhile, Mayor Sam Liccardo (D) has drawn similar scrutiny for traveling to his parents' home for an outdoor Thanksgiving dinner, despite urging others not to do the same.
The blowback to politicians' pricey French Laundry meals has been fierce, with at least one restaurant specifically mocking Newsom's meal there. Eat at Joe's, a greasy spoon in Redondo Beach, Calif., continued serving customers outside - in defiance of Los Angeles County's ban on outdoor dining - while covering up its sign with a banner bearing the French Laundry logo.
"If it's good enough for Gavin Newsom, it's good enough for all of my clients," owner Alex Jordan told KNTV.
California Democrats really need to stop being such arrogant clowns before the Republicans persuade frustrated voters to help them flip more Congress seats in two years.
x2 - x4: Like I said in the other thread thinking I was posting in this one, seeing stuff like this in the news doesn't make it any easier to convince the "BOTH SIDES" crowd that they're A. wrong, and B. abetting the more corrupt side with their attitude.
Still think the lawmakers dining at resteraunts should be held accoutnable, doing that might help make the bothsiderists look foolish when they seen that the democratic base hold their politicians accountable while the republicans' base don't.

Honestly, that might even backfire— “See, the democrats are eating in restaurants and being protested, but nobody’s protesting republicans doing the same thing, so republicans must not be doing that!”
Remember people fighting with airlines over what sort of emotional support animal they can bring on board? Well, the Department of Transportation nixed that by adding a rule clarifying only dogs trained helping a person with a disability can be allowed on flights.
Considering T***'s personal hatred of dogs I think he would have forbidden airplanes from having dogs at all if he had his way.
