Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Sorry. I got carried away.
I just wonder, has there ever being a 6-3 Republican majority on the court? Or is this the first time in history?

I think the president (Biden) could ignore the rulings if they are unfavorable (that's what Andrew Jackson AKA Trump's favorite president did when in office), and state officials who disagree with the ruling could defy it. However in Red states I think such a ruling would incentivize people like Graham and co. to remove restrictions, but even if there was no ruling, they would probably remove restrictions anyway.
Apparently even Newsmaxx called the election for Biden. Now Conservatives are throwing the network under the bus. Hopefully Republican infighting will now make them eat eachother.
Time for The Republican Party to end, it won't happen but it is well past time.

As much as people would like it to end, it won't. There will always be people who think the GOP is their savior, no matter how far that is from the truth. What we can do is teach younger generations how to embrace new ideas and be open to everyone.
It would be relatively easy for them to just not call the election and continue the conspiracy rhetoric.
Just stop showing electoral maps and slip in another vague story about electoral controversy every once in a while for the next four years and they can keep their Trumpist audience in relative ignorance.

I can't see such an event happening without the the Left and Right wings of the Democratic party also falling out. In fact such a scenario may move the overton window more to the right if the Reactionary/Fascist wing of the Republican Party are allowed to take the mantle of the "conservative" party.

There seems to have been only a couple polls done since Election Day, both races look to be very tight and all leads are very much within the margin of error.
Georgia had some of the beat polling for the presidential election, 538s average was off by only a single point.
But the race here is going to be tight enough that a single point could very much be the margin of victory.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSo the Trumpsters might be responsible for handing Dems a possible Senate victory! Oh the irony!
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnWhat information we have implies that the GOP should have a slight lead- Perdue is ahead of Ossof in the polls, and in November the Georgia polls had a slight error in the GOP's favour.
And conventional wisdom would say that things will shift somewhat in the GOP's favour in January now that the Dems don't have to worry about Trump winning but the Republicans have to worry about the possibility of a Dem trifecta.
but Trump's actions have somewhat muddied the water, though- if the Republicans voters think the vote is rigged, they might not bother to show up. And they're been noises about the GOP strategists encouraging their voters to do stupid things like boycott it or write-in Trump as a 'protest' for Biden winning Georgia. And generally they've just given the Dems a few weeks head start at campaigning with their insistence on not acknowledging Trump's win. All of which I would normally say isn't likely to amount to much, but with how small the margins seems to be, it could matter.
But basically we don't know how things'll turn out.

https://www.newsweek.com/donor-sues-pro-trump-group-2-5-million-failing-prove-voter-fraud-1550457
Donors are demanding their money back since it turned out that Donald could never actually overturn the election and has no evidence of fraud. This is one of those things where you have to wonder, "Wait, why would you ever believe in the first place?"

Trump’s baseless election fraud claims in Georgia turn Senate runoffs into a ‘high-wire act’ for Republicans
GOP Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue are trying to woo the president’s supporters without discouraging trust in the state’s voting system.

Ok,now you're doom saying, which is just unproductive and against the rules of the thread
