Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has rejected Trump's request to block ~10,000 absentee ballots from largely urban counties. These haven't been added to the vote total yet, and Biden is up over 80,000 votes right now, but they should add to his margin there.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Anything people can do to obscure Trump out of history is a good thing. Demolish his towers, dissolve his businesses, and replace him with Joe Biden as the person most featured in news outlets.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnThis got lost in the shuffle, but the response to Yellen as Treasurer seems largely positive from all sides. Conservatives/corporates don't have reason to fear her because she's a known quantity who is not interested in completely overturning their hegemony. Moderates trust her since she was an Obama appointee and a Keynesian. Likewise many progressives, including Warren herself (a highly popular choice among the progressives but likely turned down to avoid endangering Senate control due to the situation with MA having a Republican governor) also view her favorably because of her Keynesnian practices and the fact that she has an established history of willingness to challenge the big banks on matters of exploitation of the common man. The far, far left may not be nearly as enthused, but they do not seem to find her particularly offensive either.
So, a good step all-in-all. Another indication of the Biden administration's efforts to slide leftward, and also another glass ceiling shattered in the process as she will be the first woman to serve as Treasurer.
Biden seems to be going for people most acceptable to the widest group of Democrats.
From what I've read (which like all Cabinet stuff, may or may not be true) there are multiple contenders and Biden hasn't quite made up his mind yet. Maybe Yellen for Treasury Secretary was just a more obvious pick.
Secretary of Defense seems to be one of the bigger roles, so it makes sense Biden will be Bide-in his time before making an announcement.
Michael Gordon of the WSJ
is reporting that Trump is planning to liquidate the planes we use to observe Russia under the Open Skies Treaty after he pulls out of said treaty today.
