Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Historically arms would have been muskets and such, that was what it was intended to mean. Otherwise obviously we wouldn't have bans on all sorts of fun things. (Cane swords and the like) So much fun to be sliced into bits and pieces.

Bet you didn't see that coming@Braeburn: The NRA. I'm okay with gun ownership, but lately the NRA has been taking some unreasonable stances in regards to regulation, like buying into the whole "liberals support gun registration so they know who to take our guns away from" thing. :<
Also, sword-canes are illegal in Washington due to concealed-weapons laws.
Edit: So, this
showed up on my family's Facebook just now. Apparently they've made a movie about how Obama will destroy America.

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianAs is typical for politically polarized issues, people hear proposals from the extremists on the other side and think they represent the mainstream position. It's certainly true that some gun control advocates have explicitly said they want a registry as a prelude to further bans. It's not, however, remotely true that everyone who thinks a gun registry is a good idea wants to ban them — just help keep track of things that are dangerous in the wrong hands, either through malice or inexperience.
A brighter future for a darker age.
..I have no idea.
Although due to District of Columbia v. Heller it does now .
First Georgia, now Tennessee.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016On the other hand, Massachusetts State Legislature appears to be going in the opposite political direction, as Republicans are losing increasingly more ground

If that happens, I'm going underground resistance, or better yet, aiming to move to Canada (I would say somewhere in EU, but that would be easy to lie about); just as bad, but with actually free(through taxes) healthcare - I can live with that in a flawed state...

Not comforting enough... But you tried.

Someone did tell me life was going to be this way.

Yes, if people carried around halberds and morningstars, life might be more interesting.
