Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Rachel Maddow reported last night that PA Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman is trolling Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. Patrick put out a $1 million bounty on credible cases of voter fraud from around the country. Fetterman attempted to claim the reward by citing two potential fraud cases in Pennsylvania: by Republicans. He asked for it to be provided in Sheetz gift cards. Patrick has apparently not responded.

As for Rittenhouse, he's another mass murderer aided and abetted by Republican politics. Comparing him to school shooters is quite apt.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Basically, trying to turn Mississippi blue like Georgia is a lot more difficult, as besides similar factors like voter suppression, felony disenfranchisement and large numbers of conservative white voters, MS has had very little population growth (less than 1% over the last 10 years, compared to nearly 10% in Georgia) due to people moving away to other states. And the state Democratic Party suffered from dysfunction during elections in 2019.
Regardless they're not giving up and plan to reach out to voters in different ways (e.g. meeting those who voted for the new state flag and medical marijuana).
As I've said before, it's quite likely the most incompetent coup attempt in history. This shouldn't surprise anyone as Republicans actively expel competent people from their ranks.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"As I said before, I don't think Mitch and the rest of the establishment see any problem with playing the long game. Why bother going with an open coup attempt when things are still looking up for them anyway with those House wins, control of the senate looking to be in their favor, a stacked judiciary, and proof that Trumpism is still competitive? Creating an illiberal democracy that favors them long term would probably be smarter.
That viewpoint is in direct conflict with Trumpism, which plays the "short game", as it were. It's going to be an interesting Pass the Popcorn moment to find out who wins.

And if the infighting between Donnie and the Republicans in Congress continues, it might not even matter because the Dems could win the Senate as a result.

Going back to this a moment,I'm against comparing them because while Republican politics did contribute to both shootings, the scale of their crimes and location matters here,to my knowledge while Rittenhouse shot 3 people at a protest but the school shooters did much, much worse.

I'm just glad that we will finally have a Nice Guy in the White House instead of a Card-Carrying Jerkass come January. The fact that over 70 million people would want a Jerkass as our leader shows that we need to be better educated on what is right versus wrong. And certainly with Joe as president these mass-shooters would be less likely to actually kill, and they would not be encouraged by the president for doing so.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnA parody website has appeared to predict Trump's presidential library. [1]
He doesn't deserve a presidential library, after 4 years of bullying, intimidating and harming this country. When Biden takes office I would like to see him prevent such a thing from happening.
What would be put in a Trump presidential library? I'm tempted to make a joke about how he doesn't read, but I get the sense that such a library might be a fascists wet dream. I went to LBJ presidential in Austin on a trip with my sister. While it was a bit soft on him I did appreciate how it still called him out about Vietnam (I do think LBJ is one of our better presidents, but Vietnam is a scar on his legacy). I could not see trump approving any sort of criticism, but also it would be somewhat laughable, with his tweets and the like...
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midAmerica deserves a Donald Trump presidential library as a reminder of what they allowed to happen.
I mean, the electoral college is why he was President. Clinton, and Biden, got millions of more votes than Trump.

Assuming it actually gets built and isn't just used to scam more money out of his deluded followers, the Nixon Library back when it was under private control would likely be the closest point of reference. So the scandals would be ignored and whitewashed, while also being used to eternally attack his critics.
Alongside all this, one of the many issues with the refusal to transition is whether his administration will even bother giving their materials to NARA, when they can instead try to hoard it - or more likely, destroy it to get rid of any incriminating evidence.

Rittenhouse is no different than a Columbine shooter.
