Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

More than likely Biden will be saddled with a pandemic and the economic fallout of Trump's war on sanity while the republicans spend the next four years blaming everything on him and painting Trump as the savior. All it'd take is a little GOP ratfucking.

Biden has never said he wouldn't run for a second term. He's implied it, but any decision he's made one way or the other he's not going to come out and say and then automatically lame duck himself.
I can totally see Biden peacing out after getting the country back on stable footing, but if Trump does run again I can also see Biden running again because he's a proven counter to Trump and why would anyone swap out their winning horse?

His health aside, Trump may not be in any financial shape to run in 2024. Lots of loans are coming due, and many civil cases are lined up against him.
Plus, if the Trump Organization and brand begins to collapse, well...he's tied much of his reputation to that.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Like, demonizing people you already were already predisposed to hate is one thing, but from the way I've heard Q Anon described it's not necessarily hard-core lifelong conservatives that have been the ones getting sucked in.
I get the appeal of conspiracy theories on the political fringes, but I've never understood the causal factors in this particular case compared to, say, birtherism having a clear origin in racism/Islamophobia.
It's the latest incarnation of Blood Libel. The pressing need to demonize and hate is not a small issue but bubbling under the surface of a lot of cultures that creates lies about murdering children to make monsters of people. This is also something that has happened in recent memory multiple times:
- The Satanic Panic of the 80s
- BADD (roleplayers are Satanists)

They are trying to find an excuse for why their savior lost rather than admit defeat and move on.
What I really hate is that this man was easily one of the worst of all people... and he was lucky in spite of that. He got elected president, he got three judges confirmed on the Supreme Court, and despite (or even worse, because of) his Jerkass behavior managed to win more voters 4 years after his election. It seems to me that Karma in Real Life works the opposite way of how it does in the classical sense.

It's probably more RNG existing above Karma in real life. Remember Hitler? He got cornered by multiple armies and met his end by self-gunshot. Not necessarily a failure of Karma.

ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.AOC notably won like 90% of her votes in her district. This despite the Republicans spending Bloomberg levels of money against her.
So keeping her there is fine.
I do hope she eventually runs for New York Senate.

Trump running in 2024 would be kind of a gift for the Democrats. A lot would have to go wrong for him to have a chance to beating Biden despite Biden having all the advantages being the incumbent brings.
