Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Looks like that firing could backfire on Trump, as Krebs is now allowed to speak to Biden: https://mobile.twitter.com/NatashaBertrand/status/1328859851208974342
It got lost in the cross talk, but the question was asked regarding who Biden might pick for AG and what that may imply for potential investigations.
I suppose the first caveat is that if the Republicans do retain control of the Senate it does limit Biden's options - so it would rule out anyone openly hostile to Republicans (Adam Schiff comes to mind here).
But who are the other options, and what would be their priorities given that Biden wants to be hands off?
I imagine for example that if Doug Jones got the nod we'd see an increased focus on right wing domestic terror and white supremacist groups. This may then lead on to police reform and other criminal justice matters. But I don't think we'll see "political" investigations under Doug Jones.
I'm trying to think who would be willing to take on these investigations. I imagine it would have to be someone fairly senior, such that this would be their last job before retiring. Someone politically savvy, who can deal with all the flack that's bound to come their way (and keep it off Biden as well). Someone who can articulate a greater vision for the country, so that the investigations are seen to be in the national interest rather than for party political gain (as the Republicans will try to characterise them as).
I'm struggling to think of anyone who's name isn't Obama - and that's clearly never going to happen so who else would qualify?

At this point I think he's so irrationally angry that he's trying to ensure he doesn't leave his position of power. Because in his warped mind, he is The Chosen One.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnIn case anyone was wondering what new disinformation everyone that thinks Fox is too anti-Trump has moved to,
OAN is reporting that the US army has "allegedly" obtained a server in Germany from a voting company that shows Trump had 410 EV's.
They don't even have a German office. First link is Reuters covering the story on social media, second one is someone showing that, yes, it was on OAN...
There's a reason Affably Evil is a thing. Even someone who is perfectly friendly and decent to the people they know can support some truly alarming causes.
And of course they dress it up as "you should get a job and work hard to pay off your debt like I did". It's not about work ethic, the entire business of student loans is predatory and telling its prey to just work harder is victim blaming.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr

That is the million dollar question.
