Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As long as Congress continues to abdicate legislative responsibility by remaining deadlocked on critical issues, the President has little choice but to exercise what power they can.

Man, Trump's attempt to cling to power in the past couple of weeks has been nothing but a series of one humiliation after another both from himself and his campaign/legal team. I'm pretty amazed that there are still people who are wholly convinced that Trump got cheated out of the election.
Scaled seekerYou can persuade some people to believe that the Moon is a hanging curve ball batted into orbit by Babe Ruth. That's not a useful metric. What bothers me is that these are professional lawyers who (allegedly) passed the bar and have been practicing for some time. That they are going along with this garbage is astonishing.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"A lawyer's duty is to their client, not their client's money. If the client brings a frivolous or hopeless case, it's the lawyer's job to tell them so and refuse to take it. Judges are entirely within their rights to censure lawyers that fail at this duty and bring frivolous cases anyway, and these actions can include referral for disbarment and even criminal charges.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's irritating how there are so many people who continue to believe Trump's claims and will state any evidence they can think of or find online. Meanwhile, Trump's actual lawyers have no evidence to present to court, ever.
You'd think that if there was airtight evidence to present, the lawyers would have had access to it to show the courts by now.

It seems like they cling actual small scale irregularities or genuine mistakes and act as if they're being ignored to insist a comparison is going on, while ignoring that those things don't necessarily (and in this case definitively don't) indicate wide scale fraud and corruption.
It's just standard only seeing what supports their beliefs and ignoring everything else.
The fact they voluntarily are taking these cases to wage war on democracy makes me think of them as ruthless criminals.

The Trump Administration are the Real Life example of "Captain Planet" villains, that is no surprise.
The fact that they are doing this in the lame duck period as a last-minute greed-grab that will destroy nature and the environment even further just puts the rotten cherry on the top on their containment cake of pollution and pettiness.

Geez, if oil is so popular these days, why not use vegetable oil?
Seriously though, getting rid of fossil fuels and transitioning to more cleaner energy such as thermal and nuclear fusion is something not only the Biden Administration will have to do but also energy companies.

Renegade Cut recently put out a video that points out that the President has consolidated a lot of power via legal loopholes, broad interposition of the law and appointing Supreme Court Justices that will of course side with the guy that hired them. And that the position was created as a means of propaganda by giving the people someone to project to and subsequently defend as if he was them.
He comes to the conclusion that a president with as much ever increasing power as they currently have is an actual determent to democracy. And I'm inclined to agree.
