Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

One of the things that is troubling to me as a liberal is the fact that policing is necessary because some people just want to hurt, oppress, and destroy others. No amount of understanding is going to help them as they get off on it. Yet, those people riddle the police.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I blocked Trump's tweets years ago, so any link to them is useless to me. Also I refuse to give him the engagement.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"A more amusing tweet:
https://twitter.com/TheRealHoarse/status/1327991937253724161?s=19
Features a pic of Biden wearing a blue hat that says "We Just Did" and the number 46.
I'd rather keep my lunch inside. Besides, I can look at screencaps of his tweets.
I really can't look at anything related to Trump. His tweets are just mean-spirited and his face is like a Brown Note for me. The only way I can look at Trump is if it is an actor playing him, like Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live or Anthony Atamanuik on The President Show.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnHonestly, I do actually hope Trump will fall out of the limelight somewhat after January - not because he wants to, but Twitter looking to boot him off the platform and his financial means for future campaigns (read: his feel-good rallies) not looking that good means his options to seize attention might be rather limited in the future.
We learn from history that we do not learn from historyIt's less that they don't have a spine and more that some of the people in leadership positions either agree or actively benefit from people like Trump in power.
For me, I typically find out about Trump's tweets through second hand sources.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."The substance (such as it is) of what he's saying isn't important, but it's still good to be aware of the effects it might have. It's like... say there's a dumpster near where you work. You don't need to know what's in the bags, but if there's too many in there at once or if there's something especially foul inside one of the bags, you might get wild animals acting dangerously around the dumpster, or something.
And that is the extent of my metaphor stretching for tonight.
It's been fun.So not only Bolton's attacks toward Trump were a Kick the Son of a Bitch moment, but so were Trump's attacks on Bolton.
It's nice to see the monsters devour each other from a distance.
~clemont107 Exactly
As if we didn't need any more proof that the Trump administration is dangerous, even in the next two months, Scott Atlas encouraged citizens to "rise up" against Michigan's latest pandemic restrictions.
He tried to walk it back by saying he meant "vote" but I don't buy that for a second. Between stuff like this and Trump still refusing to concede and pushing whatever conspiracy theory to keep people believing he didn't lose by legitimate means, they're continually radicalizing Trump's base. I'm deeply concerned where this will lead.

x4 Trump's voice is a mixture of Tommy Wiseau's (without the Narm Charm) with that of Oscar the Grouch. I'd actually rather listen to the latter two than Trump.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnI can only stand to listen to Trump in clips filtered through political talk shows or late night comedy. I couldn't sit through the debates.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"For me, the most memorable part of the tweet was Twitter stapling the clarifier, "Official sources called the election differently," to the end of it.
It's nice to see Twitter finally doing what they should have been doing years ago.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.@speedyboris: I don't see the bit about Atlas walking back his statement. It's bit hard to claim you are encouraging people to vote when the election was two weeks ago...
I think those types of flags should have been added to posts years ago and at this point Trump and all these people pushing conspiracy theories and possible political violence should be permanently banned.

This signature was thumped to preserve the dignity of the moderators.I'd think that filming would be a bigger nightmare; imagine Trump constantly forgetting his lines like Tommy did and then insulting anyone who tells him that he's forgotten his lines.

"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."

Eh, the Tweet is flagged as untrue.
That, by itself, makes it a historic piece of political documentation.
One worth screenshotting.
