Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The problem is that "not taking anything for granted" in this case means ignoring or downplaying the evidence. Biden had a solid victory, the odds of Trump just magically stealing the election are incredibly low.
If the Supreme Court tried to do this then the states would just ignore them
and we'd get rioting in the streets.
The actual threat is not Trump holding onto power when it's almost entirely slipped out of his fingers, no, the issue is the Republican Party's authoritarianism which will definitely outlast Trump one way or another.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangConsider that Trump has no real support left. His legal team has abandoned his, his party has moved on, the courts have tossed him aside... all he has now are what few sycophants are still sticking with him and whoever's too scared of him to go against him. You're not gonna overturn an election with a group that small.
i'm tired, my friendI mean. Trump has spend the past twelve days trying and failing to find a way of stealing the election that could even theoretically work. And with every day that passes, it becomes less likely that he'll ever find one- if anyone working for him had any practical ideas towards that end, they would've pursued them by now. And, indeed, the number of people working for him is also decreasing pretty steadily, which also decreases the chances of them coming up with anything.
There comes a point where 'not taking anything for granted' is just giving yourself anxiety. And, indeed, it's letting yourself believe the 'election's not over' narrative that Trump's pushing. But, y'know, the election is over. Even Trump has stopped denying that- he's moved on from 'I haven't lost yet' to 'I only lost because they cheated'.

I sincerely hope so but I'm not going to feel safe until he's out of the White House.
~CharlesPhipps That's fair enough, I would hardly begrudge someone's rather understandable emotional response
Thank you.
I guess what I'm saying is that maybe I feel like people are understating how much danger there still is when the President of the United States is still fighting his loss.
I'd feel much better with more overt smacking down of the right wing denial.

"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainTrump just talked shit about Bolton: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1328055196904251397
As if Donald is in any place to talk shit lol
"John Bolton was one of the dumbest people in government that I’ve had the “pleasure” to work with. A sullen, dull and quiet guy, he added nothing to National Security except, “Gee, let’s go to war.” Also, illegally released much Classified Information. A real dope!"
It sounds like he's talking about himself there..
have a listen and have a link to my discord server![]()
I think Trump's talking about himself when he "talks" about other people. Whatever faults he has he projects to others. When he talks about "Crooked Hillary" it signals that he himself is "crooked". When he talks about "Sleepy Joe" it means that he himself is getting weaker and weaker every day. When he attacks "Liddle Adam Schitt" it shows that he himself feels small in front of other people, like an Inferiority Superiority Complex.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnThis is why Trump insulted Bolton
: Today Bolton told Republicans to stop babying Trump and to tell their voters, and Trump, that Biden won the election fair and square.
So of course, Trump lashes out at Bolton in retaliation.

I've felt that but the entire Senate but for Mitt Romney (and I hate Romney) backed him out of impeachment.
Mitch I know is a monster and still controls the Senate.
The Supreme Court is also rigged.
I don't take anything for granted.
