Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

When he said "no a politician" is that he have not experience there and is outside the typical convention of politicians, some people though is beligerant bully behavior were brutal honesty over the typically tendency of politicians to be polite even when shit is awful.
And redmass touch a good point, trump incompetent is a big part of why he lost, a sightly more competent populist would probably state for second term, that is a scary thought

This is a pretty big bit of information but apparently the Special Forces and soldiers in Syria never actually withdrew at all from the positions they were ordered to despite Trump's orders. It's both mutiny and uh, well, the right moral decision. Someone needs to update CALL OF DUTY (2018)'s webpage and establish that scene is apparently just true to life. Trump is, of course, furious about the fact the military disobeying him.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It’s not a mutiny, it’s a bureaucratic shell game where Trump agreed to keep troops there based on the information he was provided. I’d bet good money that nobody ever defied an order.
The special envoy is an idiot, if you’re playing bureaucratic shell games to get political sign-off on something, you don’t openly state that that’s what you’re doing.

They think Trump's reign is over.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. If they don't call the election for Trump then it will only get worse. It needs to end now and everyone should be terrified if not.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Justice Barack Obama. Now wouldn't that be nice.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnI was listening to the Lincoln Project podcast, and apparently, Trump’s state department is trying to slow the transition process (whether this comes out of sheer incompetence, active malice, or both, remains to be seen)
In the 1963 Presidential Transition act, it’s up to the General Services Administration to determine or a ascertain the winner of the presidential election before the transition process. Among the key aspects of the transition process, are access to the DOS Operation Center, government records of calls from foreign leaders, and access to presidential daily briefings.
Perhaps predictably, none of this has happened yet. The current head of the General Services Administration, Emily Murphy has not made that determination, and the State Department is sitting on all of the messages from Foreign leaders for President Elect Biden, forcing them to reach out to Obama era diplomats to talk to Biden.

"In a move surprising absolutely no one"When you have a fascist actually trying to steal an election and who is an existential threat to the lives of the poor, sexual, and racial minorities—no, it's not doomsaying.
To use a joke, "Not worrying about Doctor Doom is a luxury for people who don't live in Marvel's New York."
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I mean, it is when every attempt has been flatly shutdown, and there's no indication any others will work.
Worrying about what Trump doing this and some of the Republicans go about signify for the future is one thing, but worrying whether it will actually succeed or not is just not justifiable at this point.

Donald the Demon King is too dumb and unpopular (even among his subordinates) to successfully steal this election. A lot of his cronies are only doing what he wants them to do out of fear of being harassed by him and his supporters if they refuse, and he cannot halt the inevitable inauguration of Immortan Joe.
As Thanos said, "it is inevitable."
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnIn my view what matters is how one recognizes the threat.
Doomsaying: "Trump is trying to kill democracy and there's no hope"
Non-doomsaying: "Trump is trying to kill democracy and that's troubling, but all signs suggest that he is going to fail"
Both recognize his threat to democracy but one does it in a much more constructive (and rational) manner.

The opposite needs to be true as well. Because they need to be aware that the consequences are equally bad for denying democracy.
