Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I was just trying to explain why “there is no reputable evidence of widespread voter fraud” is not a values statement to my grandma and aunt, and I hit on something both important and kinda obvious in hindsight.
I said, that according to multiple news sources, there was no substantial evidence of Voter Fraud, but if there was, I would be happy to reconsider.
Like, what I think is going on here (or a part of it at least), is a lack of self awareness for the cognitive tendency to cherry-pick evidence that supports preexisting narratives and biases, and dismiss everything else. They already have a conclusion before they look at the facts, and assume everyone else does the same thing, and when reality doesn’t match up, it’s reality that’s wrong, not them.
Does any of that make sense?

Given how the right sees anything left of themselves as far-left, they won’t believe a neutral channel is neutral anyway, not that “neutral” is really possibe.
PBS does technically do some news stuff, but it looks to be very limited and obviously runs into the issue of PBS not actually broadcasting its programs, just making them for others to broadcast.

The site began linking to Trump’s page on Monday after his Democratic opponent was projected by several news outlets as the winner of the White House race, according to The Independent.
The swap was noticed by social media users, including “Star Wars” actor and noted Trump critic Mark Hamill.
The page has previously been used to swipe at Trump, according to Snopes. In 2016, it directed users to the then-GOP presidential candidate’s Wikipedia page after Trump came in second in the Iowa caucuses.
The Loser.com domain name has reportedly been registered to Brian Connelly since 1995.
Connelly told The Daily Beast in 2015 that he has rerouted the domain several times over the years to knock various people, including rapper Kayne West and 2000 presidential candidate Al Gore. He sometimes links to positive things he wants to raise more awareness around, like the Wiki Leaks page in 2010 or former President Obama's campaign.
“That wasn’t against Obama’s election!” he said at the time. “That was just getting people to register.”
Earlier this year, he rerouted the page to show a video of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) praising Biden in an ad created by Republican Voters Against Trump.

Wouldn't there be a "winner.com" that led to Biden's Wikipedia article?
I think there are a lot of moderate Republicans/Libertarians in states such as North Carolina whom, unlike the Alt-Right, are not unwilling to vote for a Dem if they think he or she is popular enough and well-equipped to suit their priorities, but will usually vote for a conservative.
And that too, yes. Idiot Ball at its finest.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnEven if the Senate is lost this year, it can be won in 2022 (and is much more likely to be won then). Regardless of what happens in Georgia, Biden must focus on taking executive actions and de-Trumpifying Republicans back towards the center.

That ship has sailed, the only way Republicans would've possibly de-radicalized is if Trump was beaten in a landslide by Biden. But he very much wasn't, which means that Trumpism is alive and well.
The Republican Party is a far-right authoritarian nationalist party and that's not going to change anytime soon.

Is that why the mainstream media is their go-to boogeyman right now? They believe that the media is complicit on covering up fraud because they don't cover stories about the irregularities surrounding the election all that much and thus are trying to prevent the truth from getting out by biased and selective coverage. Sounds like a paranoid projection, which has always been their endgame.
