There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Saying that they should get rid of the filibuster is a bit immaterial at this point. Considering we're looking at, in the best case scenario, a tied senate with a least one democrat who's said that he's not going to vote for that.
Whether or not they should get rid of filibuster, they're not going to, so we have to look for other solutions.
Well the Washington Post.
The U.S. Postal Service blew a court-ordered deadline Tuesday to sweep mail-processing facilities in more than a dozen states for missing election ballots that could number in the hundreds of thousands.
U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington ordered the sweep Tuesday morning after the Postal Service said its delivery performance had dropped over the past five days and could not say whether more than 300,000 ballots received in its facilities had been delivered.
The sweep was to happen in 12 postal districts, including in battleground states Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
Sullivan gave the agency until 3:30 p.m. to finish the task.
The Postal Service said in its update to Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. that it was unable to conduct the sweep because it would have “significantly” disrupted its Election Day activities. Instead, the agency said, it would continue its preplanned daily review process in its 220 facilities nationwide that process ballots and would try to deliver any remaining ballots.

But their reaction is, "Eh, it's not so bad."
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I desperately hope that Manchin is either lying, willing to change his mind, or willing to accept two Senators from DC who could do it for him.
Otherwise... we'd be fucked even if we take the Senate.

x2 Can't create Douglass/Pontiac (I prefer the former name over the latter, but I am a huge fan of Frederick Douglass) if the Filibuster is still around. Puerto Rico would have a better chance and it still probably wouldn't become a State either.

Yes, because he's willing to torpedo all legislation because he's against abolishing the filibuster.
This does not follow.

Shit, you're right.
I guess our only hope is that his position on the matter may not be set in stone.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangYou say that like the end result differs between the actively fighting legislation and just not abolishing the filibuster.
My musician pageYes, because he's willing to torpedo all legislation because he's against abolishing the filibuster.
This does not follow.
It only doesn't follow if you don't know how the filibuster works.
It raises the effective vote count to win to 60 votes, we are not going to get a supermajority anytime soon. Ergo, opposing the removal of the filibuster is the same as wanting nothing to get done.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI noticed that a not insignificant part of the Trumper crowd who supports the election fraud claims often blame the mainstream media for covering up stories about irregularities surrounding the election process or sometimes outright vilify them as a deep-state entity brainwashing the masses and undermining democracy in the USA.
Now, I understand that conspiracy theorists deny everything that challenges their narrative, but do you guys think that this antipathy towards mainstream media might have a precedent? Or are they just projecting and/or gaslighting as usual by looking for a scapegoat for their failure to justify this blame game?

Scaled seekerManchin opposed the nuclear option being used for judicial nominees, so it does look unlikely that he’ll flip. Maybe he can be convicted to require an actual fillibuster, even if just for certain things like adding new states. We will have to see if Dems are even in a position to invoke the nuclear option.

Yes, but if we pull through then he has guaranteed that nothing will happen. Which is unforgivable.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangDemocrats refusing to get rid of the filibuster is like playing a game and refusing to use powerful items because you believe you'll need them late even though you really need it right now. Manchin is like that, going "But what if we need the filibuster later?"
I'm pretty sure that if the Republicans saw an opportunity to remove the filibuster to make a power grab that would cripple the Democrats, they would do it in a heartbeat.
Manchin has said he won’t vote to remove the fillibuster, I think we will have to wait and see if that also means he won’t vote to reform it or even agree to abstain and let it happen if Democrats can either get a Republican abstention or do the vote when a Republican is absent.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJust the fact that removing the filibuster would self-reinforce the advantage by adding 2 permanent blue senate seats and 2 long-term likely blue senate seats makes the refusal to abolish seem bad-faith.
My musician pageYeah, even if all they could pass was just making D.C a state that would be a huge help in defanging Mc Connell long-term since the GOP would have to fight a lot harder in other states in order to have a majority.

Georgia will be doing an audit, recount, and recanvassing.
