Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Honest question: McConnell is older than Biden right now at 78 (Biden is turning 78 in two weeks). With that recent health thing about his bandaged hands, what are the chances of him living long enough for his next term? And what would happen if he dies?

“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollI'd presume an angel gets its wings, and McConnel awakens to the smell of sulfur and a gravelly voice rasping "Ah. So you're back already".

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesI won't speculate on his health, but if he does die in office, there'll be a special election, which will probably swing republican, and I'm sure he's been grooming a successor for the position of senate republican leader.

80% went for Biden in some areas.

I can't be certain that he is au fait with Twitter and can actually write his own tweets) start using it again, or will he still be using his own account like Trump does? If so, what will this mean for the official account going forward if Presidents all continue to use their own accounts?

Even the Soviets were consumerist.I personally think Mitch would retire early in this term, probably because of his declining health and to spend time with friends and family. Being a senator can be a stressful job for anyone.

That's a pretty funny joke there on Mitch retiring.

Behavioral Conditioning. Republicans started using the "Southern Strategy" to appeal to Southern-state white voters, and Mitch caught on with the older senators at the time.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnShould Mitch die or retire before his term is finished then the Democrat governor of Kentucky would appointment a replacement (and they’d be allowed to pick a democrat) who would hold the seat until the next midterm/presidential election (depending on when it happened) where there would be a special election.

.
God bless the youth, I just hope they don't stop paying attention and continue to turn out.
That being said there is a troubling statistic: Biden only barely won the white youth at 51%.

What happened to Evil Turtle is that he's Senator for a red state and for the Republican Conference who needs and gets money from right-wing donors. I don't think there is evidence that he's an ideologue, he's a "do whatever keeps me in power" type and that given the above means he plays the Republican Supremacist role.

Do you have a source for the 4 to 1 military vote? I can totally believe it, I just want some confirmation.
