Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Do what I did: spend years with one avatar, then all of a sudden start getting new avatars frequently. In the process, my username kind of transformed into an Artifact Title.
My musician pageI don't think anyone's really worried about this anymore, but the trump campaign has refused to pay wisconsin for a recount.
I.E these lawsuits are actually not serious attempts to steal the election and moreso theatrics to prop up a narrative about the election being stolen.
It's quite possible they don't have the cash to pay for a recount regardless. My understanding is that the Trump campaign was getting pretty cash-strapped near the end and may actually be in debt atm.
As far as I know recounts almost never swing the totals by more then a hundred of so votes, which is why the totals need to be razor-thin for the state to do it on it's own.
Georgia may end up being the only state to do a recount, but with a 10,000+ vote cushion it's pretty implausible that it will flip.
The "crowdfund" for the lawsuits is already a scam. 60% of that money is devoted to paying Trump's campaign debts.
The SCOTUS should just hurry and shut him up already. I doubt even a stacked court would appreciate what Trump is doing now.

Continue writing our story of peace. These people are getting desperate. Because not only was the election a fraud, scam and what have you, but Trump can totally get reelected off of these court cases.
There appear to be two schools of thought the: "I hate Biden" crowd and the "Trump won and is sitting on piles of evidence (that no one can see) that will make this all right"
And clearly these schools aren't talking to each other to get the story straight.
Just Having FunAs someone who was extremely worried about Trump stealing the election through the courts before - at this point, it seems obvious that his only real motive for the lawsuits in the first place is making money (with maybe a side element of making himself feel better.) They're not intended to accomplish anything else. I'm pretty sure even the theatrics are secondary to the money scam aspect.

Honestly this whole farce is possibly the most fitting end to Trump's sad and pathetic life.
He was born into immense privilege and because he was a rich white man, no matter how unqualified he was and how many messes he made, someone was always there to clean it up for him. He got away with bankrupting several businesses, sexually abusing a bunch of women and harassing a bunch of others, denying lease to black people because of racism, and so many other things.
He's always been surrounded by toadies and sycophants, both before and during his presidency, but because he's such a loathsome person there's not really anyone that feels any kind of personal loyalty or respect for him. They only cared about what he could do for them, whether it was money, power, or status.
And now that he's lost this election, he has little in the way of allies. The party he took over mostly hates him and outside of a few people is mostly leaving him to sink like a rock, having no more use for him. The only people he has left standing by his side are his shitty self-absorbed family and a handful of clueless and incompetent true believers like Giuliani. None of his futile attempts at vindication will bear any fruit. New York is raring to raise charges against him, Deutsche is looking to collect, White House Special Counsel is already preparing an investigation about his use of the white house as a campaign center...
Point being, he can't bullshit his way out of this. And he has nobody to blame but himself and all the stupid shit he did. He didn't have to run for president. He didn't have to plunge the country into chaos. He didn't have to talk shit about people like John Mc Cain and John Lewis. He didn't have to pretend covid-19 was nothing.
Maybe he'll never face jail time or be left destitute like many people are hoping, but he'll always have to live with the fact that he lost and that slightly more than half the country hates his guts.

On the subject of accepting the election, the General Services Administration, the agency which certifies the incoming president-elect, has yet to do so
. Until it does, the Biden team can't take advantage of the Presidential Transition Act to set up their upcoming administration.
USA Today: Trump fundraiser emails for legal challenges would also pay down campaign debt, fine print says
A separate fundraising effort by the "Trump Make America Great Again Committee" states that 60% of contributions will go toward campaign debt while 40% goes to the RNC.

Disgusted, but not surprised

This should be fun.
Also, I have been using that damn upside down flag for so long I’m having trouble recognizing my new avatar.
