Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I know Starbucks is stereotypically associated with left-leaning "pajama boy"-types. This is probably due to it being a place with internet connection, a bit overpriced, very common in urban regions, and the caffeinated nature of its products being useful to college students.
Basically, it's like how the Granola Girl trope is associated with Granola (because that type of person stereotypically likes it).
For my part, I'm actually rather fond of Starbucks personally, though I have had better coffee.
Leviticus 19:34Nixon is the only one to ever give it up, and I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t heavily monitored afterwards.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if all presidents (plus other people with critical intelligence information) were subject to a legal order preventing them leaving the country without State department guidance.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI said this before but Fox and other outlets and pundits like them are one of the biggest reasons Republicans have become so unreasonable. All they do is promote outrage and fear 24/7 and discourage any kind of nuance or critical thinking in favor of just sucking up to the republican president unconditionally or making the democratic president a bogieman over the most ridiculous things. I've been told Obama got called an elitist because he likes dijon mustard on his cheeseburger, that's the level of commentary that fox news provides.
If Trump were put anywhere near a general population of prisoners, or into the custody of a hostile nation, the US Intelligence Community, Five Eyes and Israel (among others) would cry bloody murder.

The guy flat-out told Russian representatives state secrets when they visited him in the White House some years ago.
Not to mention that one time when he bragged about a type of missile (if I recall correctly) the military didn't want him to talk about.
The guy only remember shit when it's inconvenient for everybody else.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyI’d assume that Trump would never go inside a traditional jail, he’d serve under either house arrest or a custom prison built just for him and whichever of his kids go down with him.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAssuming of course he isn't taken care of. If he knows too much, that makes him a loose end, doesn't it? I know, we don't know paranoia, or conspiracy, or things like that. I'm just Stating the Simple Solution if they don't want him to talk.
"In a move surprising absolutely no one"I think that is the real question here: can any ex-president travel without government permission?
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesUgh, that's not even the worst one. They once spun an entire scandal out of Obama wearing a tan suit. The fact that they'll go going right back to that after defending every genuinely horrible thing Trump has done makes me more than a little angry.
Killing Trump is more trouble than it's worth. He still has a stupid and rabid following and it wouldn't help to accidentally make him some sort of martyr.
Leaving him in a cell (whether in an actual jail or an effective one via house arrest) to rot is probably the best option.

Which is funny because I read michelle obama book and she said that if anything that Obama at times have this clustered monk tendency with him: always reading in a book somewhere and that in her first date when they were in his car, he try to hide the hole in his seat, flinstone style.
We can said something about obama, elitist? naw.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Sure but they will travel have done such travel in coordination with the state department, I doubt any of them have gone to Russia without being on a diplomatic mission.
Citizens get put on no-fly lists. They’re also former government employees with security clearance and all the restrictions that come with it, I’d bet money that senior former-CIA people can’t travel to Russia without talking to State.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSure in the case of senior CIA people they could physically do it if nobody saw it coming, but Trump isn’t some covert operator who nobody suspects, the fact that we on here are discussing the possibility of him fleeing the country means for sure that somebody at the CIA has thought of it and likely gamed out how to prevent it.

Well, we have reached peak irony now.

@Dragh, Fox (successfully!) argued in court that no reasonable person would assume that Carlson's show wasn't entertainment, and not news.
