Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

OK so
- Tom Cotton (Arkansas)
- Rick Scott (Florida)
- Nikki Haley (South Carolina)
- Josh Hawley (Missouri)
- Ted Cruz (Texas)
Are ones to watch in the future, since they've come out and defended Trump when others Republicans have abandoned him
I definitely see Ted Cruz as someone who will definitely challenge them in the future
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI'm surprised people don't find Cruz charismatic. I watched only one of his speeches and don't entirely recall it but he seemed plenty charismatic to me.
Though admittedly it might just be that I saw him as charmingly hammy.
Leviticus 19:34
Yes. There's a famous saying from a Republican Senator: "You could shoot Cruz on the Senate Floor and no one would find you guilty."
Since everyone seems to think Cotton has the best chances of winning a 2024 Primary, I'd be worried that Biden would essentially be John McCain to Cotton who would be Obama (not in personality just in age). I think Biden might need to accept being a 1 term President and try to get a younger protoge to run in 2024; say, Kamala Harris.
Maybe, to be fair at the time I was a lot more conservative than I am now, and I don't have a ton of respect for Cruz these days, nor have I given him much thought.

Leviticus 19:34John Oliver at some point started dedicating Seuss-style poems to Ted Cruz whenever he made an appearance in a segment due to how unlikeable the guy is.
If I recall correctly, Trump insulted him, his father and his wife - and the next thing people knew, there was a sad-looking Ted Cruz calling people on the phone to drum up support for Trump.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history
x2 Cruz was the son of JFK's true assassin according to Trump. Trump also said something really vile about Cruz's wife (that I can't remember for the life of me), but when Cruz lost the Primary he did nothing but kiss Trumps' rear.
And the most pathetic thing of all was that Cruz was the front runner of the Reagan Faction of the Republicans, coming in second in the Primary.
I guess that's why Orange Skull was so successful during his entire life: because a Jerkass becomes more popular, recognized and successful in real-life than nice guys.
And because of Trump's success in his life I fear that younger people will try to follow his example in being a Jerkass in order to find their own successes.

"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnNo, the reason the Orange Tumor was so "successful" was because he was born into wealth and privilege. And he's had people covering his ass for him ever since childhood.
He never outgrew the Spoiled Brat phase because everyone he's ever known in his life has enabled it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhat's even more infuriating is that more people voted for Trump this year than in 2016, even with the Covfefe-19 pandemic showing that Trump and his crew were unprepared to handle it, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnNBC News: sources say Esper has drafted a resignation letter.
Twitter seems confident Trump won't be president come january, because they've confirmed his account will no longer receive special protections come january 20th and be subject to suspension for rule violations.
Good. Every time I look at any of his tweets my anxiety levels increase.
"Wow, no Mega Togekiss in Legends Z-A. Or any non-Froslass new Sinnoh Mega Evolutions. Round of applause, everybody." - DawnEither that or they're buying the sales pitch about how the vaccine is totes coming soon you guys I swear it just won't be here until conveniently after the election.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI'm reminded of my dad's stance on why people like Trump (He thinks Trump is kind of an embarrassment, but in general my dad's pretty conservative over here in the UK)
He thinks that for most people, all they really care about is the economy, which is doing ok under Trump, and tax breaks for small-mid sized businesses. If Trump gives you those as well as back up your feelings on immigration, then most people don't care what he's like as a person.
I don't know enough about US politics, but did Trump actually do those first two things?
Kaze ni Nare!

Diversity tends to make urban areas more left-wing, also youth, being a renter compared to a home owner and simply the fact that you’re feeling more directly with society as a whole in an urban area compared to when you’re on your own in a rural area.
