Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

All flags should be textless tbh, it’s ugly. Even my home state, California’s could just remove the text on the flag. The Mississippi flag would look nicer if the text were gone and the stars more spread out.
Also states with just their state seal on it really should think about changing em. It’s just so bad.

At least they're still better than many city flags (looking at you, Milwaukee).
but yeah, a lot of state flags seem... pretty lazy?
Considering the whole "In God we trust" thing was purely to stick it to the "faithless communists" and conflicts with the US being a secular state, they should really get rid of that.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyBesides the obvious answer of "They are imbeciles" why the fuck is the idea that Kamala harris going to kill Joe Biden to keep the presidency for herself even from? She is no more a career politician than anyone else.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes"I'm not sure who said this, but I once heard a statement that was along the lines of "conservative christians basically filter their religion through the lens of their politics, rather than letting their religion dictate their views". "
Kinda, conservatives have pretty much mold their religion to their status, seen jesus and god as sort of protector to the tribe and religion as social bond that is vital for them.
For that they chose trump: he may no resonate with them in a personal view but it cared for their policies that in theory keep the belives alive while any democrat it seen as treat to their faith and how they carry out.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"A little nitpick: "In God We Trust" is the first and only national motto the United States has ever (officially) had. "E Pluribus Unum" was only ever an unofficial motto and never had any official standing.
Anyway, "In God We Trust" needs to be scrubbed from every public space like the flagrant First Amendment violation it is.

Not only is "In God We Trust" obnoxiously theocratic but to make it worse it's vastly inferior to E Pluribus Unum. No shit you trust God, you worship him. That's true of every theist.
It's far more impactful to emphasize the unity of our nation that is spawned from diversity. That's something actually unique.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangLong at odds with Trump, Defense Secretary Esper has prepared a resignation letter, say officials
I'm unsure whether to take this as good news, or bad news. No way to tell when Trump's involved.
"In a move surprising absolutely no one"That implies that the people who made the flag want to acknowledge diversity at all.
No? I'm not talking about anyone's motivations.
Of course the Republics would throw a shitfit because it's a direct refutation of their worldview.
Indeed.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangSorry wrong thread
Well I just found a lovely way to take my mind off the results. There's a livestream of Jacinda Ardern's swearing in ceremony as Prime Minister of New Zealand and a ceremonial first cabinet meeting of her new Labor administration.
Started off with a Maori call and response from the Governor General to the new Cabinet. Pretty emotional stuff.

Battle Hymn of the Republic is a great song
Though marching through Geogia is probably more appropriate right now

I can't see them accepting those positions, even if they were the big ones.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
