Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

My mother became an even more toxic jackass once she supports Trump so I do feel the consequences alright.
And he is one extra layer keeping me I'm the closet.
This also reeks of the Republicans' Lack of Empathy. They are willing to support Trump as long as they look away from the mountain of corpses.

Continue writing our story of peace.I didn't look, so I don't know, but there were at least a few black women. And no, the interviewer didn't ask them about their sexual orientation...
Oh yeah, it should also be noticed that the Democrat was a Dutch immigrant, so there was probably no Republican family influencing her views.
I think that is part of it, yes. They seem to be very willing to look the other way.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI was drawn to politics thanks to LGBT issues. However, since the beginning of the 2016 election, the Republican Party has shown itself more and more Obviously Evil.
Continue writing our story of peace.Very true, though that's not what got me interested in politics primarily. I think it was mostly political awareness from university, and a rather strong obsession with Trump once he won, because it was just that crazy. Oh, and Brexit naturally, which was basically the lead up to that interest in Trump.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI hate politics. It brings me bitterness whenever I look at it. Yet I have no respect for people who run away from it. Human lives and liberty are on the line, whether you like it or not. Being neutral is being an accomplice.
Continue writing our story of peace.I think it's often not so much that people run away from politics, but that they lead busy lives and see no reason to be more invested in politics. Understanding politics takes quite a bit of time and effort, and not everyone is willing to put that in if it doesn't affect them directly (or they think it doesn't).
The first step in getting involved in politics is realizing that politics affect you, in some way, at some time, in your life. If you don't have that realization, politics tends to seem rather distant, something that happens to other people but isn't really any concern to you.
And this can happen to minorities too. Not every LGBT or black person is going to be involved or aware of politics, even if they are aware of the effects of it on their lives.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesTrump is simply a symptom that the conservatives are either monsters or their enablers. We cannot afford to stop fighting, no matter how exhausting it is because again, people's lives are at risk.
Continue writing our story of peace.I used to have no interest in politics (mainly due to father who kept saying that all politicians were crooks) and while I was disappointed when trump first won I didn't have much concern over it because I thought that he couldn't possibly be that bad but in 2018 I started to see all the damage that he and those like him were doing and I started to become more active. The midterms were the first time I voted.

Trump has given them billions in subsidiaries. It's the only thing he's done I approved of.
