Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, friends, it's time for me to go to bed. I've got no work Wednesday, so I'll read comic books and play my Nintendo Switch. Then, come Thursday morning, maybe I'll finally turn on the computer and check the news. But I'll wait until then—until there's a decent chance that there will be something substantial to report.
See you later, and may the best Biden win.
If Biden won in a landslide, that'd probably just convince them even more that 'CROOKED DEMOCRATS RIGGED IT WITH FAKE VOTES STUFFED IN THERE AFTER THE ELECTION ALREADY FINISHED BECAUSE ELECTIONS HELD ACROSS A LARGE GEOGRAPHIC AREA CONSISTING OF MULTIPLE HIGHLY-FEDERALIZED LOCAL GOVERNMENT BODIES THAT EACH COUNT VOTES AT DIFFERENT RATES AND ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT RULES ALWAYS FINISH QUICKLY'

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!So I'm checking The Guardian periodically for updates, and I have to ask
- how are a few States called when less then 1/3 of the results are in?

Well, for one particular oddity, they're currently calling Virginia for Biden, despite the current votes standing at 40.7% for Biden, 57.6% for Trump. And they're apparently pulling their data from the AP.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
*6. US senate elections are every 2 years, staggered with 1/3 of the senators each election.
Watching the Dutch election show, there are plenty of interviews with Republican voters (and some Dems, of course), and there are four main points so far:
- For many of the Republicans, it is about the policies, not the man, meaning they can disregard Trump's atrocities since Republican policies are more important.
- Farmers are voting Republican, not because they support Trump, but because they need support now, and they feel Republicans can provide it, while the Democrats don't do enough for them.
- A Democrat noted that while she does not like Trump, she did not actually notice all that much effects from his presidency in daily life, indicating that DC politics are far away and rarely experienced up close by the average voter who doesn't follow politics closely.
- People find it increasingly difficult to even discuss politics with others, since both sides are increasingly polarized, indicating that this polarization is still increasing.
No, there was no spin given, just interviewing Republicans. And the Democratic supporter just said they did not notice much of the bad things Trump did in their daily life, which is fair enough. I mean, how many of you personally saw consequences from what Trump has done this past four years?
I think you need to distinguish how much people see of local politics, as opposed to federal politics, and that most people don't really follow politics all that much, so the vast majority of what they see they will connect to local politics rather than national.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest times

Only if the election is close. If it's an unambiguous Biden landslide, there isn't much they can do.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
