Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

This poll
shows that only 17% of South Koreans and 25% of Japanese have confidence in Trump.
currently, most options on Trump VS Biden in Korea can be summarized by this "YOU BOTH SUCK" People are not keen on Trump because of his anti-intellectual ways and FAILURE to handle Covid While people mock Biden because of his supposed "dementia" However, you can see some liberals AND conservatives supporting trump because of different reasons. Liberals support trump because of his act in bring N. Korea and South Korea together and Believe Biden will do NOTHING on N. Korea issue. ( mainly reflecting back to Obama era and how Obama did nothing) Conservatives support trump because they see Biden as socialist

The non minority Japanese opinion on Trump is much less nuanced, very simple and not clickbaity.
...
"Idiot"
Well more specifically, when ever trump gets asked about most people simply reply with "bakayaro" which is like... a profanity version of idiot, my knowledge of English profanity says there is a surprising lack of that niche in the English language.
But yea, it really is that simple, people find him stupid, and don't like him because of that.
Because the Democrats are even worse, like for all I will go to bat for them on, there policy on China is fucking bloody awful and basically amounts to roll over and insist dealing with it is not there problem.
When your options are ineffectivness or "well we wont sell you the guns you need to defend yourself" to one nation and "we are going to seriously debate taking the carrier away that gaurds you after we baned you from having a military" to another...
Well its annoying at best if your from any South East Asian country that has to deal with China, and comes across as active maliciousness at worst... and just in general makes the ineffectual grandstanding look good by comparison.

From Korean comments on Korean News youtube channels AND wiki called Namu wiki
It says translated here "separately, from the viewpoint of looking at each candidate, the word madness vs dementia is used as a symbol for both candidate, and there are opinions that says that there is no answer to both cabdidate. In particular, people compared to the times when Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush confronted with ambition and skillfulness in the 1992 presidential election, there are quite a few resentments that the US politics has extremely aged after 20 years."
https://namu.wiki/w/202085%84%20AFEAAD%208C%8086EBB9%2084EAB0#s-8.2.1
And I've seen a comment shouting support for Trump and mocking how Biden has dementia. In fact in Korean comments, Biden is always linked with the word dementia and even calls him "old man with dementia" A lot.

Personally, it always baffles me when people think Trump's actually gonna stick with them regarding China.
The guy loves authoritarianism - he pretty much wants to be a dictator himself - and he's generally getting along with those people more than he does with his actual allies.
Look at how he regularly treats the US' European allies - heck, look at how he treated the Kurds.
Trusting Donald Trump to have your back's a fool's gamble - he'll put a knife in it as soon as somebody offers him something he wants. And probably the only reason he hasn't thrown the US' East Asian allies under the bus yet is because Xi hasn't figured out what to bribe him with yet.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyOut of interest, I googled "Korean Alt-Right" and found this gem
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilbe_Storehouse
How "nice" to see that Reactionaries are just as disgusting over there as they are in the West.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% Scandinavian@Drunken: Which is exactly why the veiw if Trump tends to be so dismal dispite Republicians generally being seen as having the better China policy.
The whole party loyalty thing is just, why would it exist? And with Trump being an idiot and just as willing to throw you under the bus? Well it makes the other guy more appealing back.
@Red: Sorry but you just miss the voting over there, the actual counting doesnt really normal wrap up until 4 in the afternoon give it take.
The voting happens during amercian day, and the counting happens during amercian night which is just like lunch time over there.
Unless you sleep until 4 in which case all the power too you.

oh that horrid site...
That horrid site is basically ... a trash bin and the shortened form "일베 (lbe) is used as an insult. People who use that site is treated like a Korean version of "Red neck" and "white trash" ( or rather "Korean trash"). 90% of Koreans HATE that site and wants it gone for good.

Should be noted that yesterday was Halloween and people buy more things for it despite the lack of parties.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."

And quite a lot of people in those countries are aware that Trump is a poseur who isn't actually all that consistently reliable of an ally against China, nor does the Democrats' more cautious and saber rattling-averse approach a guarantee that they will outright kowtow to China all things considered, despite what the more nationalist and hawkish types will insist.
