Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The FBI seem to have been going ham on the kind of groups that would turn violent after the election, probably specifically for that reason.
There are certainly risks, but if it comes to it national guard units can be deployed and they’re vastly more powerful than any such groups.

@RainingMetal: Oh certainly. Even if Biden wins, I think locking this thread would be a safe choice, which is fine.

What I mean to imply is that there will be a lot of rowdy celebration in the case of a Biden win, with lots of metaphorical grave-dancing on the Trump administration.
Mind you, I speak as The Teetotaler and as a Canuck, but I'm definitely rooting for Biden because I don't want to get invaded by Trump and his goose-steppers.

ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.There’s a reason I’m planning to do a special election results watch thread, it gives the mods a specific thread they can lock if people get out of hand, while enabling other political matters to be discussed here.
It’s especially useful in the event results take several days to come in.
I doubt that’ll be what happens, we’re much more likely to have people working themselves into a panic thinking that Trump will cause a civil war due to having lost.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI’ve probably had less that 20 drinks in my entire life, total (and no more than 2 in succession), but I’m considering buying booze for Tuesday to alleviate my election-watching nerves with bellinis or fancy hot chocolate.
(What? I don’t like wine or beer.)
It’ll be either that or just unbelievable amounts of junk food.

A good way to consume spirits can be to mix them with something, as it means you’re also consuming the something else and not just strait alcohol.
If I had some equipment I might try getting some lime juice and run in and making Daqurris, sadly I didn’t think to grab my brother stuff from my parents, so it will probably be Pimms, plus I’ve got some Diplomatico and I think some other strait booze stashed somewhere.
X3 If you like spirits mixed with fruit juice I’d suggest looking into some Tiki drinks, they’re my go to for drinks due to that being my taste.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIf Biden wins, I have some alcoholic ginger beer left over from last christmas. Might break that out to mark the occasion. I'm normally a teetotaller, so I save it for when it's warranted.
Though I spose if Trump wins, I might drink it anyway, just for different reasons. :V

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read! One way or another, there will be drinking.
But probably not me, I'm almost a Teetotaler (I enjoy a glass of fine wine every once in a very rare while, but I never let myself get drunk or buzzed).
Leviticus 19:34So assuming the best, or at least a good outcome, here's a Vox article on 11 ways Democrats could get to fixing our democracy.
Some easier than others, and some that basically already have bills waiting, and just need the numbers to get through.
I'm straight edge, under 21, and I have classes in the morning after election day, so no drinking. But I'll probably end up watching whatever my folks watch and go to bed around 11 or 12 like I usually do.
Thank God for melatonin so I can actually sleep.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollI didn't intentionally schedule it this way, but since I have Wednesdays off until the end of the year (burning unused vacation time), I might as well grab some beers or whatever.

I'm not even sure they'll have the final results by then so I'm not putting too much stake into it.
