Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

'Wasn't that "good" a misinterpretation of something else he said?'
Allegedly he was telling the moderator "go ahead" (and I hate the fact that I unironically need to add that qualifier)
EDIT: New page, and
mid-edit anyways

Someone did tell me life was going to be this way.Not Obama
Not Bernie
But Joe Biden
Let's be fair here, they're voting less for Joe Biden as they are voting against Donald Trump. That's why they didn't turn out for Bernie Sanders and Obama, neither were directly against Trump. Maybe 2024 we'll see the Youth vote for the person they actually want.
Depends on which vote. I can't imagine that the GOP will be able to reinvent themselves to such a degree that the youth vote will en mass move to that party.
So in the general election one imagines the youth vote will still be implored to vote for the Democrat.
The primary contest, if there is one, may be more interesting if the party feels like electability is no longer such an important issue with the existential threat of Trump removed from the picture.
There's plenty of time however in the intervening years to push policy in a progressive direction, to the point where it won't matter who wins the primary as they will all be trusted to keep the progressive momentum going.
I just hope that, if the youth DOES turn out in this election in a significant way, that they stick around voting. I don't necessarily expect that to be likely but even if Biden wins it will be hard to keep doing things consistently if republicans just take back the other branches in the next midterms.
I'm gonna quote Trump/the GOP's inspiration and do a little bit of recontextualizing. "There are no barriers to progress, but those we ourselves erect".
Now what does it mean when the President wants to erect literal barriers to progress, I think it is the goal of those on the Left to tear them down or prevent them form being erected and not to erect them themselves, thus Voting for the Democratic candidate no matter who they are would go a long way towards that goal.
The Right however, are currently in a position where they want to erect said barriers to progress. If they can keep progress out they can keep their own power and privilege in, in which case voting Trump would go a long way towards that goal.
I'm aware that a lot of people made up their mind and voted appropriately (myself included). But for those that haven't, know that Biden was accurate and saying this election if a war for the soul of the country and that her damnation lies to the right. Her salvation, to the left.

Apparently, hackers stole about 2.3 million dollars from Trump's re-election fund, according to the Wisconsin GOP
. I don't really know how much 2.3 million is in the context of Trump's re-election fund, but it sounds like quite a bit.
I saw that through Twitter. Obviously that's illegal and should be prosecuted, but I can't say I have much sympathy given how blatantly they have ignored and even encouraged hacking of Democratic groups.

It’s a funny bit of karma, but election cybersecurity initiatives wouldn’t have helped here. The hackers stole the money by manipulating invoices the Trump campaign was using to pay for merchandise so that the money came to them, and it was a phishing attack. That’s human error on the Trump campaign’s part, rather than an issue with the systems in place.

They should have sent a poet.![]()
But the Dems also had hacking attempts. Around 800, and yet they managed to not got hacked.

That's now. 2016 would like a word with you.
Don't know if this was posted before, sorry if it was, but apparently Tucker Carlson lost his collection of "confidential documents related to the Biden family" in the mail.
The unnamed company "used pictures of what we had sent so that searchers would know what to look for" but it just raises the question of why not use email? Have the producer sending them scan the docs, make a throwaway email account or something and send it from there. Much easier than physically shipping them from New York to LA. Whole thing reeks of a desperate cover-up.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrYou know, I understand the desire to try and repeat the Comey thing. It's the same principle as why my gut reaction is still to subtract 5 from all of Biden's poll numbers. But at this point it really ought to be clear that no one gives a damn about this total nothing of a story. I'm not even sure it's energizing the Republican base in comparison to any of the other reasons they're worked into a frenzy about Biden.
I literally cannot guess why even Tucker Carlson would make up this nonsense instead of just letting it quietly die.

Apparently, maybe someone should listen to it to see what he actually says.
