Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Found an interesting article about COVID-19's effects on the election
, which also says that Democrats should invest extra resources into tough-but-winnable races in areas where the coronavirus is raging.
Just because it is politically advantageous to "our" side doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do anyway.
That's the trap Republicans like to set: "You only support voter enfranchisement because it will get you more votes!" when in reality universal enfranchisement for US citizens should be the default position for anyone who believes in democracy.
And correspondingly, the position Republicans take shows that they do not believe in democracy. Press that button. You'll see "fraud" come up. Then hit "no evidence of fraud". They'll say it's all a conspiracy or it's "obvious" or some such.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"West Virginia said fuck off.
This would have been the perfect opportunity to rename the state to something like Sherman or Grant, or something anti-Confederate. At least for distinction's sake. There's no state named "East Virginia".
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.West Virginia: Why should we rename ourselves? They're the ones who suck.
- Gratuitous Office Reference that, nevertheless, encapsulates W. Virginian feelings about the traitors to their nation
More than a few Republicans have been caught saying that the less people vote, the more their chances go up.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. And the Republicans have probably realized they've run their mouths too much to try being the champions of voter enfranchisement in the hopes that the new voting pool will vote for them out of gratitude (or a desire to protect their new rights).
You can argue about whether the Democrats are motivated more by pragmatism than justice, but there's no doubt that the Republicans aren't interested in justice at all.

It is funny that apparently the Youth WILL turn out for someone.
