Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Honestly depending on your relationship with the person it may be impossible to get them out of the media bubble they’ve built for themself. People find it very difficult to do it with family that they see physically and live with.

My musician pageFour years ago, Hillary Clinton was collapsing in polls. There is no trace of the same this year
, in fact Biden's lead might be minimally growing
. In Congress too it's good news
.
Now all that is needed to kill Trump's chances for good is an election day hurricane in the SE USA. Not really likely though.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe way to deprogram such people isn’t to show them evidence that they’re wrong, it’s to spend years teaching them the critical thinking skills necessary for them to work out that they’re wrong.
That’s something that generally requires a very close connection to a person to be able to do.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
I think it's prime victim blaming. But, it is hard to tell.

My musician pageApparently they think the media (CNN first and foremost) will basically tell the electoral college who won.
Where to even start? I'm not exactly a US election scholar... How am I going to explain the intricacies of your election system?
Any good video suggestions?
Hope shines brightest in the darkest times
I know of some videos on the topic by CGP Grey, but I doubt the person will see them as anything other than "fake news".
@Redmess: I dont know if it will be helpful to you, but you might try taking a look around this place
. They have a free online skills workshop that focuses on depolarizing conversations.
"People find it very difficult to do it with family that they see physically and live with."
People find it very difficult because it's exhausting. They get flooded with disinformation every time they go on Facebook or Youtube while real news they get from you or a handful of others who see them less often. It's hard to get them to read actual facts because you can only do it when you interact with them while the alt-right can do it every time they scroll through their phone while sitting on the toilet.
By the time you've found the information disproving whatever Youtube video they've been telling you about they've already watched five more.

Just by giving the channel's thumbnails a quick once-over it looks very much like a run of the mill anti-woke drama/outrage channel. These people tend to be grifters at best, and fash at worst.
Do they watch Tim Pool at all, out of pure interest?
