Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm legitimately surprised that he has that much self control to do not fire him anyway.
Of course, the other reason why he wants to fire Fauci is because Fauci is trusted more than himself, and that's gotta stick in his craw.

Trump's not about telling people what they want to hear. He's about telling people what he wants them to hear.
Throughout his entire Presidency, Trump's "cheerleading for America" has 100% been about gaslighting Americans into believing he is the very best President and is doing a good job.

There's a messed up logic, if you can call it that. They think that the democrats were stopping Trump from making America great again the first time, but give him another chance, he'll be able to pull it off this time we promise!
Good news: Supreme Court says Pennsylvania can count ballots received after election day.

"I was persuaded by these boards and my own eyes that Trump's supporters gladly will sacrifice America if they can make sure the minorities suffer most."
The thing is, they think that they themselves are the real America. They will gladly sacrifice the rest of America in order to save their own, but that's nothing new.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Just voted. Took some extra time as I moved end of last month ago had to update my registration, spoil the mail in ballot I'd previously ordered, and get me situated.
Voted straight Democrat where possible. As this is Idaho, plenty of local spots had Republicans unopposed. Voted libertarian for one race that had no Dem candidate. Also voted no in a measure (state constitution amendment, I believe) to lock the number of districts at 35. Given all the Gerrymandering issues we've discussed, that seemed a bad idea.
Mask use was a bit varied. Again, red state. People at front were maskless, but it was an open enough room. That said probably marks the first time I felt compelled to actively back away from somebody.
Other pollworkers has faceplates, some masks. Once I was past a certain point everyone had something.
Still, were I to discover I caught something later this would be my first assumption.
@De Marquis Probably a good metaphor: around WWII, enemy PO Ws were often treated better than people of color.
Leviticus 19:34Ranked-choice voting is a fantastic reform. Lets people vote for the person they agree with most, without having to worry it will throw the election to someone they hate.
Wish the political parties would implement it for their primaries, too. (Also encourages civility in that respect, because candidates want to be the second or third choice.) All the Canadian political parties use it for their primaries now.
(Election of the US president via a national popular vote with ranked-choice voting would be the ideal method.)

I got my email confirmation that my ballot's been received.
There was only one position on the ballot I didn't vote Democrat for. It literally only had one candidate, and that candidate was a Republican. I abstained. Even if it's literally impossible to not elect the guy, I'm not wasting seconds of my life filling in a dot for a Republican in this political climate.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I really hope the ranked choice voting question in MA passes. Ballotpedia has yes and no about even with 28% of voters undecided.
Also, looking at the list of supporters, I want to show it to the people who vote third party because both major ones suck. There's one current major party that's doing something that could make third parties more viable...
Though I understand why the main focus on the Presidency, I'm still a bit surprised talk about the Senate doesn't come up more.
If the Dems don't take that, even if Biden wins how much would he really be able to do? Looking at 538 they're likely to take it, but just barely. Hopefully at least one or two of those long-shot chances pan out.

Got my absentee ballot today. Went straight D and gonna hand it off directly to my local board of elections as soon as I get a day off.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.
