Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Him fleeing the country might be able to put a giant nail into his insane death cult though.
After all, doing so would paint him as the thing he always pretend he isn't for the sake of his ego and image.
He would be the biggest coward in american history, exposed to his cult as such, for not "standing his ground and fight" the losing results.
Let's weigh that up in this calculation as well.
...
The courtroom is awaiting him once he loses the election after all...

Eh. I’m gonna be totally honest, I doubt Trump will face legal consequences for his actions. Biden won’t push for it, since he wants to bring the country back together, and I could see him more likely advising against it, so as to avoid pissing off Trump’s base any more than him winning already would.
Trump isn’t going to be taken to court. Like any good mob boss he’ll have underlings take the fall for him, and that’s if the next administration even wants to prosecute.
He’s going to spend the remainder of his days tweeting furiously about how awesome he is and how he was really seriously the greatest President ever.
They should have sent a poet.Sure, but either he or a close associate has to actually remember that the border exists. Thee aren’t commercial flights across it, if you book a private plane from the US to Russia it flies across Europe, it doesn’t go up to Alaska and hop across there.
The US-Russia border is very remote and it’s existence is easily forgotten, crossing it covertly wouldn't be easy.

Nah, they'll spin that as a "smart move" from the QAnon hero who did as much as he could but then had to escape the deep state.
You need to understand something about cultists. They are not consistent in their beliefs and ideology. They have something that they want to be true and their beliefs change however they need in order to make it so because, at the end of the day, they aren't really here for it.
They're here for the sense of community and acceptance they get from being part of the cult. They're here because they feel isolated from the world around them, and they feel like that world doesn't make sense, and the cult is here telling them that the world does make sense and that they aren't isolated and that in fact they're part of something very grand.
People join cults for emotional reasons, and emotion can never be thwarted by logic no matter how sound and well-reasoned your GOTCHA might be. It is incorrect to say that people stay in a cult so that they can intellectually pursue the ideology of the cult and determine rationally whether it's good. People accept without question the ideology of the cult so that they can be part of it. QAnon or Flat Earth or the Jewish Illuminati stuff, for most people in the cult, is the price of admission for being part of that community.
People just like to join things. Whether it's fandoms or religions or political parties or hobbies or cults, people like the feeling of being accepted into a larger group of people. People like the feeling of being part of a clan. And lonely people anxietous about the world and not fully understanding why are not picky about the clans that accept them. And they will believe W H A T E V E R they need to believe if it means they don't have to leave.
You cannot deprogram people with logic. Their logic doesn't have to make sense. They don't care if it does or not. It's just their ticket into the community.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah I’d say there’s a decent chance that the state of New York move on him instantly, partly because they don’t want to loose him and partly because they know that if they hold him it gives the Southern District time to build a federal case.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIf Trump lost and left the country, he wouldn’t go to Russia or Saudi Arabia. He likes the good life. Russia’s too cold. Saudi Arabia doesn’t (officially) allow alcohol.
He’d go somewhere in the Caribbean. No US president would push the issue of extradition; New York might want to put him on trial, but Biden would rather avoid that kind of controversy.

And New York isn't cold in winter? Not all of Russia is arctic tundra, you know.
And I don't think the likes of Putin would be terribly upset about that. And the US could well decide that Trump is not worth breaking relations over. Realpolitik and all that.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI know it isn’t. But Florida is where Trump’s been spending a lot of his time.
I don’t think Russia would be one of his top choices as a place to live, and I don’t think Biden would make an issue of it with the government of any country he did move too. He could go wherever he likes.
And I think it’s rather premature to speculate about him fleeing the country at all. It feels like wishful thinking.

I would say that the reason why Trump wouldn't go to Saudi Arabia is that it's too hot. Florida at least gets some cooler weather during the winter months. Saudi Arabia is normally in the 110s in the summer and the 80s for winter.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I feel like discussing whether or not Trump will like Moscow weather is jumping the gun a little.
Why would Trump flee? The thing he wants most, more than anything else, is the adoration of legions of fans. Going to Russia means no Fox appearances, no huge rallies, no Mar-a-Lago to hold court in, nothing. Fleeing makes sense from a rational perspective, but Trump is not rational. He’s more worried about his image than possible jail time.
They should have sent a poet. There will be so much litigation that there is no way he would ever see the inside of a jail cell before he dies. Like as much as people wish it I don’t see anything happening outside selling stuff off and such.
But well he has to lose first. THAT is the big thing, we gotta get that out of the way first.
Reading too much into early voting or being overly confident based on polls is a problem, yes, but it's also a mistake to overcompensate for the lessons of 2016 and ignore the changes that have happened since then.
Honestly, I'm not even sure if it's a problem. People like to talk about good polls causing complacency but I've never once seen any empirical evidence to support it.
Like the "shy Trump effect" it's something that possesses superficial logic but doesn't seem to actually exist meaningfully.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang
I meant it from an "understanding/interpreting the data" view, rather than the effect it has on people's voting behavior. People shouldn't look at the data and think it's impossible for Trump to lose. It's getting more likely that he does, and Biden is heavily favored, but 5-10%=/=0. Not that people here are doing that, mind you.

My bet is on “I’m the real president and Mar A Lago is the new white house” while he stirs up violence via twitter.
