Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There are reports that Twitter and Facebook are censoring NY Post's bullshit "BUT HIS EMAILS" story... and the right is freaking out, claiming all sorts of things, like "censorship" and "election interference" and "digital civil war"... SMFH, they're censoring it because it's misinformation. Those meatheads can't fucking think for themselves, can they?! Just fuck the lot of them!!
In a humorous news moment: Biden's popularity is surging among the Irish. And by Irish I mean actual people living in Ireland.
Anyone here have a dissapointing moment when you realize that the creator of something you likd or entertainer you like is Republican? I admit I was dissapointed that the comic book artist who made axe-cop out of stories his kid brother told is a hardcore Red-Hat. I bring it up because I'm wondering if that is one of the reasons the youth vote is split sometimes. Popular Youtubers like him so impressionable fans like him too. I know it isnt a 1 to 1 thing and kids are usually smart enough to not be led by everything an entertainer says but there is no denying entertainers have an effect on moral values.
Oh, I'm sure they absolutely know what they're doing, and they're angry that Facebook isn't letting them abuse the platform to misinform as they used to.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a mixture of both sincerity and disingenuity, the Right habitually lies but they're also irrational lunatics disconnected from reality.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangIn defense of Graham's comment, he clarified the comment later
, and the original statement was as follows:
“One of the reasons you can say with confidence that you think Brown v. the Board of Education is super-precedent is that you are not aware of any effort to go back to the good old days of segregation by a legislative body, is that correct?” Graham asked the judge, to which she responded in the affirmative.
I wasn't watching the footage, but I'm inclined to think that he meant it sarcastically, even if only because he's been in politics to know just how bad that would be taken if said in earnest. If he were a neophyte or unknown element, it'd be harder to say (e.g. the woman who mentioned "public hangings"), but given his established history? Probably legit Sarcasm Mode that wouldn't make it through in text.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"It seems Barron Trump had tested positive for COVID-19, but was asymptomatic.
Thankfully he'll probably recover fine, even if he's a terrible person (which while unconfirmed isn't too unlikely) he's a kid and thus we gain nothing from his harm.
Not that anyone suggested otherwise, just giving my thoughts on the news.

Is Tiffany a White Sheep, or just The Un-Favorite? The two are not mutually-inclusive, and I genuinely don't know enough about her to know.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"

Regarding Trump's kids landing jobs on the WH. I remember one of my favorite response tweets to Trump was when he tweeted:
And someone simply asked....
Why not?
