Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Post-debate polls indicate that more viewers felt Harris did a better job than Pence
. Not mindblowing numbers, but decent enough and sure to keep the Democrats' momentum going.
Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA 24) has tested positive for COVID after coming into contact with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). [1]
Pinkeye is not actually a very common symptom of COVID (roughly 1.1% of patients have it)
. So it's entirely plausible that Pence does not have COVID and it's caused by something else.
So the next debate was announced by the debate commission to be virtual... and not an hour later Trump is saying he won’t do it. [1]
The Commission really gave him a way out of the debates didn’t they...
Theresa Greenfield raised $28.7 million
and Al Gross raised $9.1 million
in Q3, continuing the trend of eye-popping Senate fundraising hauls.
Also Senator Mike Lee of Utah tweeted out
:
Democracy isn't the objective; liberty, peace, and prospefity are. We want the human condition to flourish. Rank democracy can thwart that.
They just keep on saying the quiet part out loud, don't they?
I hope so - Biden shouldn't be denied a chance to talk to voters just because Trump won't show up.

That’s after he tweeted out “We are not a democracy”.
It’s very concerning if Trump’s rhetoric starts gaining ground amongst senators, so far I don’t think we’ve had Mitch change his stance on peaceful transition of power, which is the key thing, but it’s still damming.
I wonder if they would have Biden debate one of the third-party candidate if Trump refuses to attend?

Figures, now is his last chance to actually get them arrested. I don't expect Barr to comply though, evil as he may be.
"I should have been arrested years ago!", disgruntled criminal quips...
Can we, indeed.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesIf Trump doesn't appear at Debate no. 2, he's done. The last time a major candidate avoided a debate, they lost badly (and that was Jimmy Carter in '80).
Its as if Trump really wants to lose, but I know his ego won't allow that. Still, I can see the Polls reach +20 for Biden before starting to return to a more normal +5-+15 range.

Yup it was Dean.
