Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Because I was bottom paged:
FiveThirtyEight has the national polling of Biden being almost 10 whole points above Trump.

Yup, the more money you have the more adds you can buy, the more events you can hold, more mailouts you can do, more people you can hire to canvas for you.
If you have a robust warchest and stay sensible in your spending you can drown out your opponent and insure that low info/undecided voters hear your name more times then the other guys name ergo they will be more likely to vote for you. "Oh yeah...I've heard of XXX, so I'll vote for him"
If you have a bunch of overspending grifters on your campaign you can find yourself lagging in the polls and have no money to pour into those areas you are trailing. Which is where Trump is now, he's trailing in ALLLLLOT of Must Win areas and not enough money to shore things up hence pulling money out of one area and into another.
Even Goddamn Rasmussen has Biden up by 12 points.
And there are several polls that place Biden at a 14+ point lead
.
That's crazy, if those numbers bear out then we would see a landslide.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangIn case no-one's seen it, here's a picture of the set-up for the VP debate:
It's not until you see the set-up you realise just how close together 12 foot really is. The plexi-glass is also quite slim and small. I saw images earlier of them being cleaned, and they're shorter than an adult man standing up and barely wide enough to block. There's also no protection for the host and he's sat quite close to them both as well.
There's been a bit an outcry about the set-up, given that the White House is currently a hotspot. It's not just concern about Harris, but about the host and venue staff as well. Both Pence and Harris have tested negative in the pre-debate test.
According to the BBC, the 12 foot is being measured from the centre of one chair to the centre of the other chair (scroll down for the picture
).

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.@Raineh Daze: Huh, yes he is. I was basing that on old data.
Yeah, pulling money from a must-win state where you’re in a statistical tie isn’t a good look.

He did not intentionally let the pandemic spread. But he is so pre-occupied with his image that he cannot fathom showing weakness to it. A strong response to Covid would have felt like surrendering to it. Much better for his strongman image if he just stands up and says he'll not bow to the virus.

Looks like there won't be any live coverage in my country for this debate. Oh well, CNN it is, then. How many hours till it starts?
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesMost of the criticism I've seen is about the exposure of the host to both of them.

Apparently a lot of the money was wasted on ads in DC to boost Trump's ego.
