Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Vote Eggman! He may turn us all into robots, but maintenance healthcare will be cheaper and easier than ever because of that!
It is way too hard to think of a fictional villain which does not seem pleasant compared to Trump.

My musician pageTrump is essentially a cross between King Dedede from the Kirby anime and Bob Page from Deus Ex.
This this sounds like a weird combination basically sums up why it’s hard to compare Trump to fictional characters. There’d be a strong temptation to portray him as bumbling anti-villain or as a more purely malevolent individual than he actually is.
Leviticus 19:34Couple of things from the developing WTFJHT feed:
Top officials at the Justice Department were the main drivers behind the push to separate immigrant children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border starting in 2018. Then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, and others at the DOJ were “a driving force” behind Trump’s “zero tolerance” family separation policy, according to a two-year inquiry by the Justice Department’s inspector general. “We need to take away children,” Sessions told the five U.S. attorneys along the border with Mexico in May 2018. Rosenstein went even further about a week later, telling the five prosecutors that it did not matter how young the children were. From the policy’s earliest days, the report says, Justice Department officials understood — and encouraged — the separation of children as an expected part of the desire to prosecute all undocumented border crossers. (New York Times / NBC News / The Independent)
Mike Pence agreed to have a plexiglass divider between himself and Kamala Harris at tonight’s vice presidential debate. Pence initially argued there was no need for a barrier on his side of the stage, but changed his mind after viewing the setup during a walk-through of the debate hall. (Washington Post)
Also, isn't about now when the FBI was going to hold a press conference we were thinking had Republicans scared enough to bring out the Hillary Clinton boogeyman?
Seems a bit premature, especially since "Surely THIS is the thing that will make all Trump's supporters abandon him" has happened so many times over the past four years. Gonna hold off on dancing on Trump's grave until there's actually a grave to dance on, figuratively speaking.
Things are looking really good for the election. But Trump isn't beaten until he's beaten. Things were looking really good in 2016 too. And yes, things are looking better for the election than they did in 2016, but the point still stands: we haven't actually won until the votes are counted and Biden has more of them.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.![]()
Either now or in an hour; the tweet quoted upthread said EST (which would be now), but the website https://www.justice.gov/live
says ET, which assuming they mean Eastern Daylight Time, would be in an hour.

FiveThirtyEight House forecast
has dropped. Between 93-97% chance of Democrats keeping the House.
@Red Hunter that’s sort of what I was getting at. There’d be a strong temptation to portray someone like Trump as a bit of an antivillain or to go all in and make him a palpatine figure.
Leviticus 19:34Ironically, King Dedede was a parody of Bush/Japan's prime minister in that cartoon.
Like there was a time in the jap dub where Dedede yells self defense while fighting an elephant, which was a satire of the Prime minister sending Japanese troops to Iraq to support USA efforts.
And we all know what Dedede's texan accent is supposed to parody.
Like I respect the VA for making it work.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"If I knew how to code web spiders or other data crawlers, I would so want to run through the last four years of this thread and just see how many Trump comparisons we've made.
Bonus points then when someone links to Insult to Rocks in subsequent posts.

Yep on both sides of the pond.

Plus Trump could never pull of something like this beauty.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I thought Trump was an extreme version of Big Smoke after he went off the deep end.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.

Probably doesn’t help that the proverbial King’s men, horses, elephants and turtles are also coming down with COVID-19.
Disgusted, but not surprised
