The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

[up] Not like it'd matter - Trump's whole argument was that Biden was taking perfomance-enhacing drugs (whatever that's supposed to be).

Whatever Trump's hopped on won't really "enhance" his performance. Rather the opposite, I presume.

What, did Trump think that Biden takes Viagra or something before a debate?

I do wonder how good the treatment at the White House is going to be. While the WH would definitely spend the money necessary to provide that treatment it's not going to make a different if Trump refuses to listen to their advice.

[up][up] I have no idea. I don't even try to understand what Trump's thinking anymore because my sanity is too precious for that nonsense.

[up] Yeah, just having access to the good treatment doesn't mean squat, if you refuse to comply with it. Not to mention that "good treatment" doesn't automatically translate into "getting better", depending on your condition.

[up][up]He did leave the medical center way earlier than he should have. He should have stayed there for at least a few more days.

[up]It's not too hard to comprehend Trump. He's just a vicious overgrown Spoiled Brat of a bully. We've all known a Trump or two in our lives (assuming we weren't a Trump in the past).

If we go by Herman Cain's schedule, if Trump does die from the virus, it'll likely be mid to late October. Still, even with his other health problems, I'd be shocked if he actually died (even taking into account his own stupidity).

If he does bite it before election, shit is gonna go down hard. The government is already a mess with everyone getting infected.

Given Trump is taking massive immune suppressant steroids to keep going, his chances of dying have probably dramatically increased.

What health problems did Herman Cain have when he caught COVID?

Wikipedia notes is that Cain had cancer, but that was over a decade ago and it went into remission. This article mentions he was perfectly healthy (if high risk due to the cancer history) before catching COVID.

And Trump being Trump might just cause more problems. Partly just from being incredibly important, because you don't get normal treatment—overtreatment is entirely possible in a case like this.

From the linked article (emphasis mine):

Trump’s medical team will face a veritable minefield as they attempt to form an alliance with the commander-in-chief, a notoriously demanding, publicity-conscious patient who views disease as personal weakness, and diet and exercise with suspicion.

The fuck is he on?

He believes that the heart only has a set amount of times it can beat before it fails and so avoids exercise to not use up anymore beats than required.

What is scary is that that there are more people out that who do believe that nonsense.

It has been attested that Trump believes the human body only has a finite amount of energy in a lifetime and exercise uses it up. He's also a germaphobe and, I believe, a picky eater.

The fast food thing is because he's terrified of being poisoned, and so he gets fast food under the logic that because it's made so quickly there's no time to poison it.

[up][up]I think somebody on this thread mentioned that he almost exclusively eats fast food because he thinks it can't be poisoned or something due to the way its made.

It has been attested that Trump believes the human body only has a finite amount of energy in a lifetime and exercise uses it up.

Which is technically true... assuming you don't, you know, eat or drink anything to replenish said energy. In that case yeah, exercising would just kill you faster. But the good news is we don't run on batteries, we run on fuel.

...Now I'm idly wondering if this means Trump is actually some kind of robot. Probably a sign I should get some sleep.

It should be noted that 46 states allow the tracking of absentee ballots. I think the Republicans aren't aware of this or missed that it's good to make sure that they have gotten where they need to. I checked on mine to make sure it was where it should be.

Also, 4 million ballots have been cast already. A new record with 21 million going out in California.
