Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Fuck'em, it's a job they signed on for specifically to help Donald Trump maintain power.
They're no better than everyone else who has coddled Trump throughout his life and helped him dodge the consequences for his own ineptitude and malice.

Disgusted, but not surprisedTrump going out in this state is the plague equivalent of a mass shooter. Sure, even if they're dead by the end, it's not before doing an unpleasantly large number of collateral damage in the process.
At least some of them are just professional bureaucrats.

And just for the added idiocy, they're refusing to contact-trace the Rose Garden event
.
I feel for the 2 White House housekeepers who tested positive for coronavirus. They don't have anything to do with the political side of things but got caught up in this anyway.
The gift shop is privately owned and unaffiliated with the White House, IIRC.

I just find it weird that you feel sorry for the people who help Trump maintain power, but you don't feel sorry for the people who put their very lives on the line for him.
You've already demonstrated a total lack of sympathy for them in the past on this thread too.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThey probably already convinced themselves it wasn't that dangerous even before this - certainly not dangerous enough to, say, put on a mask.
It didn't help that the WH had a false sense of security due to relying on rapid COVID-19 tests, even though that's not how one is supposed to use those tests at all.

Disgusted, but not surprisedOh, here's a comparison of Biden and Trump's statements on the virus over each month.
I really enjoyed Biden's October statement.
In good news, the 538 Senate odds have moved from "toss up", to 2:1 odds in favor of the Democrats. At this stage, such a shift in their direction is even better.

That phrase (which has been co-opt by a major Democratic fundraiser) also refers to stripping him of his Senate majority and most of his power in DC as a result. While at this point the race in Kentucky is probably lost (he's up by double digits in October, in a very red and heavily suppressed state), the rest of his caucus is far from safe.

I'm still just worried he might infect other people.
