The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not to knock on his health or anything, but congratulations Trump for being a fucking idiot because your ego wouldn't let you stay at the hospital.

The Trump family, according to insiders, thinks that they own the GOP now and that the next candidate will be from the family.

Wow, I never thought I could feel actual pity for Trump, but the guy looks really bad in those videos.

Someone, please tell Trump he's not well and he needs to go to the Hospital. Even without the actual pity, I wouldn't want him to die, especially from Covid...

This month so far politically is just...wow. How do we even describe it so far? I don't think any month has started this chaotic, or at least none I can remember.

So....pointless.

The Trump family, according to insiders, thinks that they own the GOP now and that the next candidate will be from the family.

Are they entirely wrong about that, given how much of it bows and scrapes to Trump's whims?

[up]x5 That's the thing, though - Jared isn't a Trump, he's Trump's son-in-law. People obsessed with the Trump family would likely prefer one of his sons or Ivanka.

Not to mention that Jared being Jewish would probably alienate some of the Trumpets.

[up] Could they be considering running Ivanka?

Month? Just this past weekend alone...

Running Ivanka would be a suicide tactic, in between her being female and thus alienating all the open misogynists of the Trump fanbase, plus her own general ineptitude.

Can I just say that while I'm usually super averse to politics, being over here has been a boon? It honestly really helps quiet the doomsaying in my head.

[up][up][up] Plus her being Jewish (she adopted Jared's faith after marrying him). Can't see this going over well with Trump's fans.

Honestly, if anything happens to Trump, I'm half expecting his kids to tear each other apart.

On the plus side, Pence is going to get incinerated on Covid. Harris could literally just reply "How'd that work out for Trump?" for everything and he'd have nothing to hit back with.

None of the Trumps could lead the Republican party the same way Trump has. He really is an appeal to the Lowest Common Denominator and most of the voters remember him through a nostalgia filter lens of what being led by the "good old days" of Reagan materialist excess could be. Trump had 40 years of branding himself as America's loud boorsh (but entertaining) millionaire and that cannot be repeated.

But I believe the Trumps don't know that.

[up] Of course they did. The Roberts Court is fundamentally opposed to voting and democracy.

Does it affect any other states that have removed witness requirements, either through the legislature or the courts?

Edit: Oh, the article is a stub, awaiting developments.

I expect much the same.

One problem with forwarding Don Jr as a candidate: the deplorables can't stand him because they think he's not a true believer or something.

If Trump’s health deteriorates the debate could be very important, we’ve already got You Gov doing initial polling for Biden vs Pence.
