Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The subject's been mentioned before, so I will be brief. But the accusations of pedophilia are useful for two reasons: One. It is such a horrid crime that merely doubting it casts you on a poor light. Defending an alleged pedophile suffices to put you next on the chopping block. So accusing Biden isn't really so much accusing Biden alone of being a pedophile: It accuses the entire Democratic party of defending it at large.
Two, this clear polarization is beneficial politically as it is as obvious "bad guys vs good guys" where you'd have to, in appearance, defend child molesting to add any nuance.
There's several other reasons (mostly political polarization) but this seems to be the popular justification for the accusations of pedophilia. The reason for it is that people aren't very smart.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesYeah, pretty early on in the primary he spoke about how he’d messed up and intended to do better.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI believe he has, and I remember that the women that did raised complaints against him said they didn't think he was sexually harassing them, just being, er, socially inept, let's put it like that.
Mind, this is all half-remembered from news that came from way back in March, I think, when the subject was first brought up.

@Redmess: Well, I think it's a good sign of his dictatorial approach: Even in very clearly verifiable cases, he will make an official statement that lacks reality contact. Sure, he's lied before, a lot, but it's rare that he makes an official statement solely for the case of telling a lie. Usually the lie is part of some other context.
Oh, and he's already back to trying to infect the entire White House.
Immediately takes a mask off... ffs.

And of course there was the rape accusation, but that doesn't seem to have actually gone anywhere or lead to anything for a number of reasons.
Indeed, I would say the reason it has died is because of how unreliable it turned out to be.
For those interested, Vox has a nuanced article that firmly convinced me against the accusation
.
There is no way Trump isn't still infectious at this point. Hell, going by the timeline of other moderate-severe cases, his condition could worsen again.
If his COVID case is resolved by the time of the 2nd debate, I wonder what kind of shape he will in? Cause this virus kicks the shit out of you, even weeks or months later.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I totally believe he's going to drop dead at some point. This isn't me scaremongering or wishing for it but I'VE HAD COVID-19. You do not go do activities and high stress if you want to survive this. I survived by taking it easy and I'm half his age.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Dexamethasone has a half-life of about 6 to 7 hours. So the dosage he received this morning will probably wear out by tomorrow. There seem to be a lot of restrictions on what medicines can and cannot be taken at the same time as it, and of course Trump's doctors haven't been very transparent. So its not possible to say with certainty what his condition will be like 24 or 48 hours from now. But odds are . . . not good

I think I’m just going to have to accept that I don’t know anything about Trump’s health or how well he’s recovering beyond the simple fact of “has COVID”.
Nothing that comes out of this White House is reliable.
I’m still stunned that the leaks were coming from his Chief of Staff. That’s the person in charge of, among other things, preventing leaks! Meadows has to know that he’s out of a job; Trump has fired people for far less.

I don't know why you would still want to discuss old "scandals" like his crowd size. Frankly, that one seems rather quaint these days.
