Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There are Trump supporters who are worried about COVID-19, some of my family members are one of them. Their main delusion is not not realizing Trump is making things worse.
The people who are championing opening up are likely the bocal minority.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Some people have a choice between opening up and being destitute.
Because the GOP has blocked all relief.
The politicians supporting it choose money over lives.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Yeah, there is no official political slant for this forum. In theory, people of all stripes and affiliations are welcome. But pro-Trumpers tend to run afoul of the rules we do have prohibiting hate speech, personal attacks, and general incivility (Rule Zero: Don't be a dick).
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.For example, if someone comes here and says that BLM is a violent hate group, or that Jews are secretly running the world, or that Democrats are pedophiles, or that climate change is a hoax, we just ban them. They don't stick around long.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"We've got some independents, though it should be noted that the quantity of independents in the country has waned significantly over the past four years.
It's difficult, in the current political climate, to be interested in politics and yet to not take a side.

White House will not be contact tracing the guests at the Amy Coney Barrett nomination party, despite at least 8 people getting infected by the event.
You should. Not voting is how we get Trumps. If everyone who doesn't like Trump had voted in 2016, these last four years of Hell wouldn't have happened.

Rule 1 of voting in a two-horse race is, and should always be, to vote for the lesser of two evils. Not voting means you're more likely to get the worse option and principled abstention is masochistic.
Yeah Trump supporters tend to run into issues with our rules on not being a dick, debating in good faith and not engaging in hate speech.
Also it’s worth noting that a number of the regular’s here aren’t from the US, I know we’ve got a pretty broad spectrum of German party support in OTC, other countries do also have a few people, which can mean divides between parties.
Edit: On distrusting all politicians, I’d say ask yourself why you distrust them. The “all politicians suck” cultural narrative actually does a lot to help dirty politicians.
Or as my one once accidentally snarked to a non-voter when we were campaigning and they said “they’re all the same”, “On, how many do you know?”

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSure but then you’d be living in Ireland, and should if possible vote in elections here.
The civic duty to play a part in your country’s management doesn’t disappear just because you switch country.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI blame the Democratic Party and justifiably so. If they actually fought, people would vote for them.
I have voted but for people I genuinely loathe from the bottom of my heart and hold in contempt—just because the other side is worse.
Because so many of them are evil and support evil things.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. Before we start playing the 2016 blame game how about we just agree that there’s lots of blame to go around for 2016 and move on?
Please? For the sake of Fighteer’s thump button?
