Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As President Trump can do anything he wants, which includes leaving hospital when he should not,he has supreme authority
The 25th amendment might change that though, because the supreme authority is passed to the vice president, and the vice president can then order the hospital to keep Trump there ..I think.
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverThe secret service may be able to overrule him for his own safety, though based on his car stunt they’re either unwilling to do that unless pushed, or can only do it for his safety and not for their safety. It might come down to if the doctor simply recommends he not leave, or says that him leaving would pose an active thread to his safety.
Remember that the president doesn’t have as much freedom as you’d think, they’re never allowed to drive for their own safety, they don’t get to just go somewhere by themselves.
There’s also informal bureaucratic games that can be played. Such as Marine One not being ready to fly Trump back to the White House.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranOne mistake a lot of people are making a lot is to follow this reasoning:
1. Donald Trump did something that seems very foolish.
2. This foolish action had some small, beneficial effect.
3. Therefore, gaining that effect must have been the entire point of this foolish, unwise course of action.

He might wind up being admitted to the hospital a second time, which will make him look very stupid and lose whatever face he hasn't lost already.
I wonder what is going to happen with the debate schedule. Trump will likely try to push ahead with it, but Biden might reasonably back out. No telling how something like that will play out - maybe Biden will get his own plexiglass screen

Not my point, and I apologize if I gave the impression that it is. What I mean is, I'm worried about the amount of people who over-interpret Trump's action, and I want to emphasize that being too much of a conspiracy theorist is best avoided.
According to CNN's Stephanie Gallman,
Tim Murtaugh (Trump's Director of Communication) confirms that the President will still attend
October 15th's debate.
On an earlier note, Variety Fair reports
that Donald Trump Jr. allegedly thinks his father "is acting crazy" and seeking an intervention regarding his planned discharge from Walter Reed. This is contrasting Ivanka and Jared's “keep telling Trump how great he’s doing” optimism.

Best case scenario, either the doctors somehow talk him into extending his stay at the last minute (unlikely), or his family and staff are somehow able to cajole him into doing the rest of his quarantine in the White House
