Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

His poll numbers I expect to skyrocket.
Of for... quit it with the doomsaying. There is absolutely no reason to believe that this will help Trump. No one is going to be convinced by Trump coming out early, especially if it results in disastrous healthcare consequences (as it very well may).
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangGonna start handing out the doomsaying thumps here in a minute. Memers and Michael Katsuro, take note.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So here's a question - can Trump actually leave the hospital Against Medical Advice, or would they be able to invoke quarantine regulations to make sure he stays put? Of course, that latter option might rely on whether they'd be willing to do that with the President, who otherwise should be smart enough to actually listen to doctors, but very obviously won't.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"![]()
Note has been taken, and I'll be more careful.

Trump has not been declared by a medical professional to be mentally unfit to make decisions regarding his own welfare, so yes, he can leave a hospital against the advice of his doctors. As for whether or not they can enforce quarantine regulations on him . . .

@ironballs: In practice, he can definitely leave whenever he feels like it. Now, in theory, I don't know, but a good rule of thumb is that people usually can leave hospitals if they want. (Especially since being in hospital isn't necessary to be quarantined.)
That's why you don't say somebody was released from hospital, but that they were discharged. Hospitals aren't jails.

I'm fairly sure his chances of PERSONALLY dying have just gone way up.
