Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Eh, no. That's not how it spread. It didn't happen because someone ate a bat.
Also, it's kind of racist to blame this virus on people who eat bats.
NBC News: Singer Bryan Adams slammed as racist for post blaming 'bat eating' people for coronavirus
"Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some f——— bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold, not to mention the thousands that have suffered or died from this virus," Adams wrote on Instagram and Twitter Tuesday, alongside a video of him performing his song "Cuts Like a Knife."
Adams added that his message "to them other than 'thanks a f——— lot' is go vegan."
Though Adams has since deleted his tweet and appears to have disabled commenting on his Instagram post, his rant sparked immediate backlash online, with "Bryan Adams" and "Bryan Adams racist" trending on social media Tuesday.
"Now that I see #Bryan Adams trending because he's a a racist f—-wit, I am a lot happier that I converted his concert t-shirt into my first ever homemade respiratory mask," one person tweeted.
"Well, I didn't have #Bryan Adams being a screaming racist on my 2020 #Stopthe Madness Bingo card," wrote lawyer and media consultant Katie Phang.
Also, we're drifting off-topic again. This would be better suited to the COVID-19 thread.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThat sounds the most basic version of Revealing Cover-Up ever.
We learn from history that we do not learn from historyWell, I don't think that Evil Turtle lives in make-believe land like Trump as that totally goes against all of his other politics. I suspect that it's more of a mundane "Why do you care?" refusal.

Rats are an extremely convenient vector for disease.
Which is a bit sad, because they're one of the most empathetic and social animals in existence.
