Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Take this with a grain of salt, but a Vanity Fair reporter is claiming Republicans close to the White House said that Trump was worried and asked aides prior to leaving for Walter Reed if he was going out like his old friend Stan Chera did back in April.
Erm, if anyone wants to read WTH news not about Trump and COVID, the Democratic candidate for a state House District in Kansas is looking worse by the day. The person's Aaron Coleman, a 19-year-old who recently primaried sitting Democratic state House Rep. Stan Frownfelter. After he won the primary, it came out that he had blackmailed a fellow classmate with revenge porn at 14 and abused his girlfriend as recently as last year. His responses and statements were... let's call it less than inspiring.
And now it was just reported that he threatened to shoot up his school at 14. Kansas City Star
Frownfelter is running a write-in-campaign against him in the general.
It's about a bunch of people denying the poor and destitute any relief during a pandemic while partying it up gathered together in a place they thought was safe. Specifically, a party, only to have someone bring the plague to infect them all.

Just because someone is running as a Democrat doesn't mean they can't be an awful human being. At least the overall ratio of decent to awful is better for the Dems.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, I can believe Trump is scared of dying of this. As his taped recording from February shows, he is well aware of how bad this disease is. He's probably been much more scared of it than he shows.
And yes, his condition could deteriorate quickly, especially at that age.
As for the hospital transfer, that is apparently standard procedure, so we can't really conclude anything from that.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest times- Hope Hicks - Trump Senior Council, former Trump WH communications director
- Donald Trump - President
- Melania Trump - First Lady
- Ronna Mc Daniel - RNC chair
- Mike Lee - Republican Senator, UT
- Rev. John Jenkins - president of the University of Notre Dame (attended SCOTUS nomination at Rose Garden)
- Three unnamed journalists and one unnamed WH staffer
- Thom Tillis - Republican Senator, North Carolina was at WH on Sat
- Kellyanne Conway - Former White House counselor, attended Rose Garden event
- Bill Stepien - Trump Campaign Manager
- Ron Johnson - Republican Senator, Wisconsin
- Chris Christie - Former Republican NJ Gov. Helped prepare Trump for debate.
I wish a speedy recovery to those three unnamed journalists and the White House staffer.
Friend: Lots of people working in the Trump campaigns got infected.
Me: Yeah.
Friend: They were also waiting to get paid.
Me: Uh huh.
Friend: So, I guess they were paid in... exposure.
Me: You're going to hell, man.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It’s starting to look more and more likely that we’ll be in the territory of a victory big enough that the most we’ll have to worry about are Trump’s angry tweets. We need to be cautious however, since polls can easily narrow.
That still leaves the issue of potential criminal charges Trump and his associated may face once they leave office, and what they might do to try and avoid those; ie a self pardon or 11th hour resignation followed by a pardon by President Pence. My guess is that Trump gets the same deal as Nixon, a pardon and assurances that he won’t face prosecution for his actions in office that may have violated state laws in exchange for leaving quietly.

Just an opinion rather than news, but am I the only who thinks it's kind of ghoulish that so many liberals are laughing at Trump and the other Republicans who have COVID and/or are actively wishing death on them?
The bloodthirsty "an eye for an eye" attitude is disturbing IMO. I thought we were better than that

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.So would they forcefully take Trump's phone away during the treatment in order to not aggravate his high blood-pressure and keep the mini-strokes that he denied ever having (without anyone asking or saying anything about them in the first place) that got him rushed to the hospital earlier this year from complicating his condition further?
Or just let him keep it?
