Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Not Knowing Biden's Policies:
For the people who don't know Biden's policies and don't have time to read them in depth, here is Joe Biden in a Nutshell
and here is the short version of his policy platform.
I find it ridiculous people still call Never Bidens "Bernie Bros" given Bernie and his entire following have rallied around Biden.
I feel a great deal of....less than pleasant feelings to the people who want to blame the Progressive Left for everything wrong in the party.

True, though it's becoming something of an artifact now. A lot of those REALLY far left types have effectively abandoned Bernie as a "traitor to the cause/revolution" or see him as a martyr who "took one for the team and sided with the enemy" or any other such thing. They basically only slightly less hate the not as far left vs the the right and far right.
I haven’t actually read Biden’s climate proposal, what about it is insufficient for addressing climate change?
My understanding is that it's decent but it doesn't go far enough
.
Which isn't the best when we're talking about an existential threat.
Healthcare? Incrementalism has its value, despite the ACA's flaws it gave millions of people healthcare (including myself). But Climate Change needs radical action[1].
[1]= No, that doesn't mean strawmen like industrialization. [2]
[2]= That said, some of the complaints do oppose nuclear power. Which is bad but frankly not particularly important considering how long making new nuclear reactors would take. Even if they were all for it, it wouldn't matter in time.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangHell, some of Sanders' people have teamed up with The Lincoln Project, in an even more blatant Enemy Mine case, to do Latino outreach in swing states like Florida.
The majority of them are perfectly reasonable and pragmatic. But the ones that aren't are very loud.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
This. It's a loud minority.

I don't necessarily disagree, but what Biden offers is MILES better than what Trump offers and we need SOMETHING to start and get the ball rolling. It's not just possible, but highly likely that he DOES in fact up the green project as president.

I've met some Never Bidens through friends of leftist friends, and many of them are the type who were always tepid on Bernie because they perceived him as a "damn liberal"note . Accelerationists, tankies, the occasional fundie ancom, and wannabe Reign of Terror reenactment parties, basically.
They may overlap with but are often distinct from the Cultist brand I used to talk about regarding Bernie fandom, who were interested in Bernie seemingly less for ideological reasons and more for, well, "Kpop stan" reasons. They give less of a shit about what Bernie actually thinks, and are in it more for the feeling of obsessively stanning the man like a celebrity, viciously attacking anyone they see as insulting or posing a threat to the man, regardless of what Bernie himself has stated that he wants. Often to the point that they're convinced a lot of what Bernie may say regarding party solidarity with these so-called enemies is him just lying to make some people feel better, and that as his "truest" fans, they know his true feelings and intentions. These are the kinds of Bernie Bros most likely to become Never Bidens.

Climate change is NOT an existential threat, it is a globally damaging threat that WILL cost billions if not trillions in damage, and render large chunks of the coastline unusable, as well as cause who knows how much damage to an ecosystem.
But there is absolutely zero chance of it causing human extinction, lots of people WILL die if nothing is done, but... its also not even under the worst estimates any kind of apocalypse.
So yes, making some progress to averting it is WAY better then no progress.

Trump got spooked hearing about him being positive for COVID
.
Apparently having the symptoms is scaring him.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.CNN's chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta reports that a Trump adviser says he is "having trouble breathing, that he's been very fatigued today, very tired."
He later reports
that a White House official told him that the "public should not be alarmed and that Trump is taking the situation 'very seriously'". The White House is also "making plans to keep the public updated on his situation".
On Weimar Syndrome, the SPD loathed the KPD as much as the other way around. Neither party were interested in cooperation. The fact the KPD gets all the shit for it is obnoxious, because its not like the SPD were exactly willing to work together either.
Also, either there aren't enough Leftists that you don't have to do outreach at all, or there are enough that they can sink an election. Pick one, you can't have both.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerI feel like it was a catch 22/Logic Bomb for Trump; he's a germaphobe, but wearing a mask would mean admitting he was wrong about COVID not being serious. Ergo, as long as he didn't get sick, he would go maskless as long as possible to keep the "strong" look of a leader. It finally caught up to him.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.

Well there's no news regarding it save he does.
I mean, we have up to 2 weeks of how he responds to it.
