Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He'll probably refrain from direct attacks on Trump for awhile, but that doesn't really change much.
Take note that COVID tests cannot necessarily recognize a very early infection so even if Trump had infected Biden during the screaming match we wouldn't know about it yet.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIn 2016, Joe Biden said he wished they were in high school so that he could take Trump back behind the school building and beat the shit out of him.
Trump responded by blustering at a rally, claiming he would just blow on Biden and Biden would fall over.
Four years later, I find myself legit worried that the hot air blowing out of Trump's screaming, raging mouth may actually kill Joe Biden. The foreshadowing for this season has been so fucking weird.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Trump's stance on the pandemic is somewhat moot. He's made his bed, and now the doctors are telling him to lie in it.
538 however ask the question if this will affect Republican governors and their decision making process. Will we see for example Ron DeSantis reverse course and halt his moves to fully reopen Florida, now that the state's most famous resident has the disease.

Well, there's the mistake. Associating Trump with honor.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Or timeliness.
I recall discussion here about how Trump mistreats his airplane pilots by, among other things, coming too late to the plane.
^Apart from the point above about it not being time yet, chance and masks matter.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Washington Post is reporting
that Donald Trump has been taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for treatment. There is no specific news about the severity of his condition.
x4 I doubt it means anything. No doctor is going to want to have the President of the United States die on their watch and it later be shown that they left a possible treatment option "in the locker" so to speak.
The only inference so far is that Melania hasn't been given the cocktail, so we know that at a minimum Donald has it worse than Melania.
THAT on the other hand, oof. We are well and truly on the Johnson flight path now.
Edited to get my arrows straight.

And lo, Donald Trump got his wish. The entire world, for a glorious period of time, focused all its attention exclusively on his well-being.
