Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So it's seeming more and more possible that the party to nominate Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court was a super-spreader event
. I don't actually believe in karma, but I'm getting that sense of schadenfreude from the way they're paying for their absurd rush to steal RBG's seat.

For a while I've predicted to myself that we were going to see a super-spreader event among the highest ranks of the GOP, knocking out all their top people, and it looks like the ACB party might have done it. Ironic, really. They wanted to disrupt precedent in the attempt to secure a conservative legacy on the Court and instead they infected themselves with coronavirus.
Reality really does have a liberal bias, in that if you ignore it enough, you are a conservative, and possibly dead.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That would explain how an event focused on her being a super-spreader event didn’t cause her to get it, she’s already got immunity from having gotten it previously.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranA lot of people on twitter were saying this is false flag operation. That he was faking it for some reason. Counter to that the Whitehouse put out a statement saying the symptoms were mild. To counter both those points, he hasn't tweeted in 14 hours. If it were just a false flag operation, he'd be tweeting because he does not have the discipline to not tweet, but if it were just mild symptoms he'd almost certainly be tweeting.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midHe’s not faking, Trump is a liar, but he’s also a pretty bad liar. He lies constantly in very obvious ways, plus his White House leaks so bad we’d know if he was faking.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranInterestingly, Trump hasn't tweeted during the past 15 hours since diagnosis
.
Yeah, I don't think Trump could pull a lie like that off. Not to mention that everyone around him would have to be in on it as well, and keep perfect secrecy.
Remember that most conspiracies fall flat once you consider the amount of people involved, and the increasing potential of leaks. There is no way a US president could cover something like that up, I think.
That likely means he is either in no condition to tweet, or is not allowed access to his phone due to quarantine restrictions.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesMy theory on why he isn't tweeting? This has really hit home for him. Let's not forget, the man is a germaphobe, if only in private. So to have had the disease slip through his guard, combined with the knowledge that he is considered high risk - heck, maybe even add on the fact his brother just passed away...
I mean, if you are looking for a recipe to trigger a narcissistic breakdown, well that's it.
I'd also point out that the disease progression, as reported, is following the Johnson model. That's not a model you want to follow fyi.

Fascists cannot admit weakness. Trump has claimed to be the healthiest President ever and made up an elaborate lie about a yearly physical to cover his mini-strokes. He'd never admit to Covid-19.
He already had his plan to win the election and it was destroying the election's legitimacy.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. There's hopefully only a month left of Trump campaign time so this is no plan.
It's ANOTHER October surprise.
Because 2020 is Marvel comics needing to raise sales to keep from bankruptcy.

It's too much to hope that this takes him out completely. I don't mean death, just that he's incapable of holding office. I refuse to hope.

Something separate from all the current news I thought might be appreciated, and I'll likely repost once things calm down some, a podcast I listen to, Timesuck ended its latest episode with a plug for a site that offers quick at-a- glance "fors" and "againsts" on candidates' stance on topic. I haven't explored it enough yet to know if they go farther than presidential, but here it is for anyone interested:
